Off-RoadingDiscussions specifically related to modifying and driving your Toyota truck/SUV off the pavement, including trip reports.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra's body Squiks and Groands", within the Off-Roading forum, part of the General Forums category.
When putting it through a ditch or a sharp angle the trucks body will make sounds when it is being streched.
How bad is this?
I think ive only heard this sound once and i was going through a ditch that wasnt a challenge at all.I had it an angle and was going in the ditch at 45 degree angle instead of straight into it.

If you twist your truck up good going through a ditch and stop to open the doors, they will hit the body. Since Toyota decided to design the Tundra primarily for driving to the mall, they used an open frame rail design from about mid-cab back to give it a nice cushy ride.....unfortunately that also makes the frame extremely flexy and it will twist easy.
I boxed in my frame in various points from the cab back, still rides the same but it a little stiffer. My frame will still twist up pretty good once my suspension travel is all used up.

hmmm, I haven't had any issues with mine sqiking or groandering. I've done some fire road runs, mudding, going over heavy debris in the woods, the terraces in our fields and pastures, driven off of the back of the dam a few times, some nasty ruts even when hauling, and all of that before I redid the front susp....no noise, no issues. Still none after the front susp and AAL.
I don't know....

A lot of it could be the weather stripping being dry on one truck and having a nice film on the other. try some lube for the door seal and see if that helps.

Its probably hard to hear anything outside your truck when you have Garth Brooks or George Straight turned up real loud Yeah i haven't heard anything yet either and i roll my windows down when going through ditches and stuff just to listen and make sure nothing is wrong.

I noticed some noise recently when backing into a ditch. I went in on an angle, rear pass tire low, front driver's side high.
I wasn't sure if the noise was coming from the windshield or the door.
I suppose if the windshield pops out one day I'll know. lol
