Re: fix a tire off the bead in seconds on the trail
I'd only do that if the wheel/tire were laying flat on the ground. And the people who did this waited too long to fill it up with air. You have to be real quick about it.
When I or anyone else blows a bead we usually jack the truck up, pull the valve stem and have several sets of hands holding pressure on the bead until the pressure inside the tire is enough to reseat it. When that doesn't work, we'll throw a ratchet strap around the circumference of the tire and crank down on it, then fill it with air.

Re: fix a tire off the bead in seconds on the trail
I have done it MANY MANY times. I usually pull the valve core because once the fire is out it starts to suck back in and if the valve is in it will pop it right back off the bead. Be careful how much gas/Carb spray/Flamable stuff you use. We blew a 35 inch tire off both sides of a 15 inch wheel by using a little to much. I will also suggest you do not put your finger over the valve stem when it starts sucking back in as well. I had a burnt circle on my fingertip for a while. If you get it to pop on the bead and blast it with air to keep it filled up it is best. FYIU if the gas does not go in the wheel but stays on the outside when you do this the tire will set on fire.
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

My friend does this all the time, he is on call to repair semi trucks on a road. Good advise!

Re: fix a tire off the bead in seconds on the trail
I've done it several times on a backhoe tire - helps to put a large ratchet strap around the tire and tighten it down as tight as possible, then spray starting fluid in the tire and light. Once it pops on the rim, you have to hit it with a lot of air in a hurry, my CO2 tank works really good for this. With a ratchet strap and CO2 bottle you can sometimes even seat a tire without the starter fluid.

Re: fix a tire off the bead in seconds on the trail
I thought you meant all the way off the bead...in that case a set of tire irons is your best friend, but anyway a CO2 bottle and a ratchet strap is what we've used around here, messing around.
It'd work better to pull the core before using the bottle, but then you gotta get the right sort of chuck to make it work. None of the guys here have had a problem with the core in, tho.
Re: fix a tire off the bead in seconds on the trail
hahaha i saw a vid of that once on u tube.
so when i had auto shop in highschool. i had an assignment to put a tire on the rim and inflate it. well my friends and i being lazy and not want to wait our turn to use the machine; we managed to jam the rim on the inside of the tire. and then we went and got some parts cleaner spray, and a match. sprayed the parts cleaner on the inside of the tires and dropped a lit match on the tire. well i think we mighta used 2 much parts cleaner cuz the tire popped like a baloon and the rim zung a 6 inches and smashed my buddys foot and broke his pinky toe. needless to say we coulnt go in the shop for a few classes and had to learn from a gay book for a while.
in my opion it was well worth it. and yes i know we got lucky, trust me every person that thought they had authority over us told us that. multiple time. and my mom. and grandma. even my neighbor.

Man Schools sure have changed. Making you read from a Gay book just for popping a tire on. That seems extreme to me. I wonder if Token got in a lot of trouble in school??
