I'm not new to four wheel drive but I am new to Tundra's 4X4 set up. I have a 2009 Tundra Rock Warrior.
I have been using GM 4X4s since the 70's with their lockers. I find that the tundra has no lockers. Will be going to Colorado for Elk in November and be needing the 4X4 on this truck. I have hunted the area in Colorado for over 20 years and will see either deep snow or mud depending on the winter conditions.
What is the correct way to use Toyota's 4X4 in these conditions.
The best traction for snow and mud comes down to tires and the lines you pick. I have walked through soupy clay mud and driven through wet and dry snow in 4lo and 4hi. The difference I have found comes from what speed you are traveling for which to use, 4lo or 4hi.
You should be fine, the truck does well offroad. If you are hunting I would assume you will have another vehicle with you that has 4x4. Make sure you bring your shovel, winch/come along, tow straps, etc. if you are going to be in nasty conditions.
