Yes you can for the occassional deep dips where your fender intake would normally be under water and in the position to suck a full gulp of water up and crack your engine block, a snorkel would prevent this from happening.
My friend built a home made snorkel for his Chevy out of PVC plumbing pipe and he can drive through water, in short bursts, with his entire front hood under the water.
I tried that last weekend and the second my hood went under water my motor sucked up a big gulp of water and the compression threw a rod.
8,000 dollars in damage that a snorkel could have prevented!

I am in mid write up and when I have finished the detailed "how to" with pics, we will have an install guide to rival anything on the Safari Snorkel website
I test drove it last night and with the complete watertight install there are no ECU issues, CEL's or other anomalies...
There is plenty of air as it is now a "forced intake" with the scoop on the snorkel vice the smallish "snout" on the stock intake that was drawing air from inside the fender.
I am very pleased with both the look of the the install and the functionality.

Most excellent! So....you started this thread/quest back in 9/23/06 and the new snorkel package arrived at your door on 2/08/08. How many days is that? But you persevered and look what you have to show for it. That deserves .
