Default Feeler - Spare Rear Axles

I'm going to be selling my three built up axle assemblies in about three weeks. They are complete with bearings, retainers, etc, except they do not have the brake backing plates on them since I was running rear disc. They also all three have ARP high strength studs in them. I just had my spare built up for $480 and that was cheap ! I will be selling these for $150 each, if you are running rear drum brakes you can have a backing plate put on these.

Just wanted to post it up here for you off road guys before they get posted (and lost) over in the classified black hole !

Me either! Hopefully I will see it soon, the axle shafts and brakes are arriving at PartsMike today and the housing should be leaving Dynatrac for Mike this week sometime.

I was going to PM you to tempt you with my rear disc brake kit I sold, but I knew with the new addition to the family you're lady would have probably caught a flight to Nashville to personally give me the smack down.....so I chickened out !

And yes.....Tedd is an evil doer !

Unless, it's something both of us (the better half and I) want/need, it's hard to convince her I need to spend money on a rear disc conversion. Her solution, stop breaking things on the truck. I'm ordering my parts for my 63" chevy spring conversion. Luckily that's cheap to do. I already have the springs, just need hangers and perches.

On that note, how much fab time and cost would it be to have you fab some? Need the spring hangers with an ID of 3". Same with the perches. Ever thought about having a small fab business?

lol!

i cant wait to see the results of all the builds in progress...i think that's four tundras with rear axle mods in progress, unless im forgetting someone. btw jon there's a video of a diamond axled buggy dropping the full weight of the buggy several feet vertical to the axle tube and then doing a rail slide (still on the tube) in a concrete half pipe, dunno if brian posted it yet but it'll probably be on pirate...and that was the 0.375 wall version. your new rear housing will be bombproof...maybe try out the local skatepark for testing .

now that im back in the west and have some living room/guest room space, once my truck is built a bit more it'd be great to get everyone together and run something retarded like holy cross, or drop over to moab.

anyway, the whole point of posting on this thread...if someone was still hoping for axles, i'll have mine out one of these (soon) days, but theyre not all built like jjc's ...theyre totally stock. maybe a month or so, and i'll let 'em go really cheap since theyre "well loved"...like cost of shipping or something.

I boxed it in 6" increments with 1/4" plate. My next project with the frame is:

1. remove bed
2. cut frame rails off from the edge of the cab back
3. plate the ends
4. tube out the entire rear chassis
5. run removable, bobbed, fiberglass bed sides & fuel cell
6. run rear chassis/cage though back of cab to tie in in-cab cage and then thru the firewall, engine bay, and end at the front stinger.

.........that's really the only other mod I plan on doing to the frame .

yeah, i know...thats what im talking about. gonna be "drive by feel" .

btw a flap wheel works great for making small adjustments to your cuts in the fiberglass. medium grit finished the trim smooth on the rear corners, it looks like the bedsides came that way. gonna dovetail the rear or leave it boxy? with the 69" wms the tires will be barely outside the "stock" lay if you go with glassworks, and if the front of the bedside is run near-flat with the doors, the end naturally dovetails and actually looks pretty good...not goofy. too bad i dont have the busted bedside anymore, i'd send it to ya for a sacrificial test-bob.

Dove tail for sure! I wish I had done that when I bobbed the factory bed, was planning on reworking it.....but all the dents it's received lately has kinda acted like a natural dove tailing - I even dove tailed the front drivers side ! My front wms-wms is 69-9/16" and rear is 68".

another handy trick, since the fiberglass is so flexible, is to pull the lower rear edge in toward the centerline. it enhances the curve on the fiberglass, matches the front curve better, and gets the glass out the way of the rocks...the bottom edge actually pulls in narrower than the stock track width. gotta use a dzus tab to do it.

i dont think i have a pic posted, the only ones up are before the rear of the bedsides were pulled in.
