Finally got some tires. They are 38x14.50 Toyo Open Country Mud Terrains that came with wheels (same design as the ones I already have). So far I really like them. They ride really good on road but are louder than expected, but still quieter then my last tires. I also picked up a steering box from an 88 4-runner but I don't know if I am going to rebuild that one or the one already installed. The seal kit for my 94 box is $50 cheaper than for the 88, so I probably will rebuild the 94 box.
Got the steering box installed today. It takes slightly more turns to go lock to lock, but its not leaking like the last one. I trimmed the bumper slightly to help clear the new tires. Speaking of new tires...
you got a good looking truck bro. I just read thru your thread. What'd you wind up doing about your shock towers? A lot of early 80's 4Runner and pick up guys use F-250 shock towers cause they are like $14 a piece from the dealer.

I just bought a shock hoop kit from Datin Fab off of ebay. They were only like $60 or so. There are pics of them on the truck on one of these last pages.
OK, I need some advice. Sunday I will be going to the biggest off road event of the year. Now under compression, my front axle moves forward and the tires eats the bumper. Now I don't want to fab up a bumper any time soon, and I need to fix this problem before Sunday. I plan on trimming up the bumper but I don't want it to look all half-assed and what not. Any suggestions or pics of stock bumpers on any kind of truck that have been trimmed to fit larger tires?
Here are a few pics to give ideas on how much needs to be trimmed. Note that the tires are straight, so more would have to be cut probably to compensate for turning.
I don't have any pics of my old factory bumper, but just take a sawzall & grinder to it and cut it back at an angle - be sure to round off any sharp edges with a grinder and let it ride. As long as it's not cutting your tires....no harm, no foul .

The second pic on reply 324, are you at full flex or did you stop when the tire started rubbing? If you have more flex, my only concern is the bumper cutting up the tires at full flex.

I think I stopped when the tires started to spin from lifting up off of the ground. So that is probably about full flex in that picture. I will probably have to trim up the bumper some more, but its not a big deal. If I have time, I will go back to that loading dock and flex it again.
