don't disrespect our Military please, without us, well........never mind.....you don't understand.
I didnt take it as being disrespectful to our military. People protesting against homosexuality at the funerals of fallen military members, calling those dead faggot lovers among other things... that is disrespectful.
I think the point is "World". The Statue of Liberty is pretty inspirational, but it doesnt amaze me to ask how they built it, much like the Hover dam, they had machines and technology (although old in comparison with today) to help them.
The Japanese castles... they have my top pick, but of course I enjoy reading about their history, in particular the samurai culture. Obviously their level of historical quality and honor shows through. I havent been to Japan (except the Tokyo airport) to enjoy their sites and countryside, perhaps one day... Vietnam, China, Thailand, etc are on the list to visit as well.
The German castles would probably be pick number 2. I've visited quite a few of them while on a 30-day leave. Simply amazing architecture. The chefs would prepare the food below and hoist the table and all up to the host and guests. The carvings, gold trim and statues, paintings, the floor, ceilings... just amazing.

yeah, you're right, the other guy was trying to make a point about the cemetaries and I'm at my wits end with even slight anti-American sentiment.........sorry to go off topic.

No biggie. I wasn't putting down any particular group of soldiers, nothing like that, just making the point that its Wonders of the World.
I don't think of a military cemetary as a Wonder, its a tragedy if anything, so many young lives lost before they had a chance to really live.
There are some pretty amazing bridges and buildings built during the Roman times, and looking at those you just scratch your head in wonderment that they were able to build them considering their level of technology.

The Seven New Wonders of the World have been announced. They are:
Chichén Itzá, Mexico
Christ Redeemer statue, Brazil
The Great Wall, China
Machu Picchu, Peru
Petra, Jordan
The Roman Colloseum, Italy
The Taj Mahal, India
I'm OK with all of these except the Christ Redeemer state. It, like the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower, are a little too modern to be a "Wonder" of the world. I'm surprised that the Pyramids of Giza or Stonehenge didn't win.
Oh, well. A thousand years from now, we can vote again.

I'm with you. The Christ Redeemer seems too new. I still think Angkor should have made it. I don't think you could vote for the pyramids as they are considered one of the ancient 7 wonders.

I agree with you. Angkor is really impressive, and most of what was once there is now just ruins. It was more impressive than the Great Wall to me. The Great Wall is just that, a wall. What's impressive is where it is, not what it is.
New or not, the Christ Redeemer is just a large statue. There are plenty. The Colossus at Rhodes was supposely large enough to span the entrance to a bay. Angkor was a city of 4-5,000,000 people in 1300/1400.

Pictures just don't do the place justice. Angkor Wat itself is huge. My wife and I were on the top level and got seperated. I sat down and talked to a monk for about 30 minutes before my wife was able to find me. The Banyan Temple is really cool, with all of those faces. I really would love to go back one day, because I didn't get to see everything.

They're all pretty amazing. To say one is more "wonder"ful than the next is a difficult task. I'd personally like to visit each of these places. Except Mexico, no offense Mexico, but you're not at the top of my travel list.
