Default Seven Wonders of the World

Here's something for the intellectuals of the group. And anyone else with an IQ slightly higher than a turnip. (Titan drivers need not apply).

If you managed to stay awake during your World History classes, you will no doubt know that once upon a time, there were the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World.

To wit: The Great Pyramid of Giza, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, The Statue of Zeus at Olympia, The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, The Colossus of Rhodes, and the Lighthouse at Alexandria. Only the Great Pyramid of Giza still exists to this day.

Now here is your chance to vote on the New Seven Wonders of the World. There are 21 candidates, ranging from the Great Wall of China, to the Statue of Liberty.

Vote Now! The 7 winners will be announced on July, 7, 2007 (07/07/07, get it?)

The New 7 Wonders of the World

Anyway, back to the subject

Great, this is all I need. Another reason to travel.

Of the places that I have actually visited (Ankor Wat, Chichen Itza, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Stonehenge) Ankor Wat, in my opinion, is by far the most impressive.

The only one I've seen in person is the Collesseum, and well, its old.

I'd have to say Petra is probably the one I'd pick.

Things like the Eiffel tower, the Statue of Liberty and the stupid Aussie buildings are all too recent.

I agree, but I still voted for the Statue of Liberty. (Patriotism, and all..)

I think they should have included Mt. Rushmore. It seems like it would have been more difficult to create than some of the more modern structures. But that's just me, I'm no engineer/architect. But then again, maybe it just doesn't have the same historical value.

Anyway, I really just need to travel more. I want to see it all.

I suppose the CN Tower in Toronto, being the tallest free standing structure in the world, should have been on the list.

I lean more towards the National cemeteries located all around this country. Without our military and the sacrifices they have made over the years, this discussion and all the natural wonders of the world doesn't mean a hell of a lot to me. Just MHO.

I think the topic is Seven Wonders of the World, not Seven Wonders of America.

The 1000+ yr. old wooden temples in Japan are amazing. I saw Chichen Itza on the equinox when shadows align, also amazing. Some of these wonders are testaments to the power of oppression by dictators, or kings over subjects and slaves, like the Giza pyramids, and Great Wall. Still, they stand as memorials to the suffering of those who built them. The Great Wall gets my top vote, with Timbuktu 2nd for its early university, and for the best name.
