So, it's 102 outside right now. Humidity stays around 30-40% in this area, so its not that nasty.
I need to do a lot of fiberglass/stereo work soon, and I dont want to wait for winter.
My garage is insulated on some sides, and has no ceiling (just rafters.) I have a white garage door, and a light colored roof with vents, and a big turbine.
Right now, 102 out, its 91 in the garage.
I plan on putting fiberglass in the ceiling, and tracking down a garage door kit, but in the mean time...
I'm trying to decide between a swamp cooler, and real AC unit.
Im not looking to cool all 500 square feet, but a cold blast of air kind of thing blowing into the car would be nice. Or blowing at my workbench.
Any suggestions on brand or type? Anyone done the same?

If you are going to insulate the garage, a fan might do the trick.
The swamp cooler might increase corrosion, so your tools, electronics and the vehicle might suffer a bit.
You mentioned your work bench, I'm not sure how much time you spend at the bench, but personally I sweat enough while working. I don't think I'd want to add more humidity.
Personally I like an air conditioner, turn it on with with doors closed, cool the room then you can turn it off if you want.

I know that many people in dry climates use swamp coolers. Off course, they don't work in humid climates. But I think swamp coolers are kind of nasty and they don't quite do the job. I'd get cold a/c and cool off the entire area. Portable a/c units are pricey. I'd go with a window unit.
Is the garage attached to the house, because if it is, you could put a duct into the garage.
I was watching a program on television where they put pipes into the ground to take advantage of natural heating/cooling. Once you go about 6 feet under the ground, the temperature stays constant throughout the year. So you could use it for heat in the winter and to stay cool in the summer.
I don't know a lot about the system, but it certainly sounds interesting.
I would get a big fan from Sam's. A work shop fan is what is called. Now, if you plan on spending some long quality time than a 110 volt window unit would do the trick.
Portable AC it is. I wonder how a 7,000 btu unit would do though.
I have a small 3000 btu window unit in my 8 x 8 well insulated storage shed and it will freeze a guy out on the lowest setting. (that is in HOUSTON, the hot arm pit capital of the world)
