A little fast for a pickup? 97mph? You should buy a Supra and join me and my friends in the forums at http://www.supraforums.com.
97mph reduced to 90mph. How lucky.
I was pulled over for doing 110mph on a Sunday morning with no traffic on the 3 lanes of Interstate 5 south. My fine; neglegent speeding ticket. $485 bucks!. The cop was pissed off at me. He yelled at me and said, "What is your fricken hurry"?
Sad part is, I could have smoked that cop, but then again, no Supra is any match for the radio.
If you don't live in a state like South Dakota where you see more deer than cars, you most likely are not putting other people at risk, besides yourself obviously.
I was by myself and the closest car in front of me or behind me was at least 1-2 miles away, except Mr. Highway Patrolman!
It was during the day, completely flat ground, and straight. Not LA rush hour or anything, or in town in bumper to bumper traffic.
Not trying to justify my wrong doing, just explaining that a lot of people can't understand how desolate this state really is.

He did look, especially at my wheels and painted brakes, but I have to say, it was the dirtiest my truck has ever been. We had just got like 2-3 inches of snow and the highways were 100% gravel along with the snow melting. Pretty ugly truck at the time!

Let me see if I understand this correctly. You were doing 97mph on a highway that had gravel and melting snow and got a ticket for speeding?
#1) you are very lucky that speeding is the only ticket you received.
#2) I assume you have no loved ones that would suffer if you were to die suddenly in an accident. If indeed you do than you are being extremely selfish with your life. If you were to perish unexpectedly you are not the only one who suffers.
#3) If you were to loose it in a patch of slush or gravel at this speed and the truck got sideways on you do you really think you could pull out of it before the Tundra rolled? You’re talking about a vehicle that sits almost 11 inches off the ground at the pumpkin.
My advice is to pay the ticket and be very grateful that you’re alive to do so!
I don’t mean to preach here but if it saves just one life it’s all worthwhile. I’ve seen too many young people, who knew it would never happen to them, die from just the type of action you’re talking about. Slow down and let somebody love you!
Yeah I suppose I should clarify a couple of things here.
We had just gotten 2-3 inches of snow like 2 days prior to "the ticket" and ONLY SOME not very well traveled backroads were slushy. One those I did drive the speed limit of 55mph. The interstate where my ticket occurred was COMPLETELY dry, even the bridges etc.
SATundra, I actually told somebody that right after it happened. I said, Maybe I should bring my truck to the dealer to put a governor on it and set it around 40mph! That still wouldn't help, in town the speed limit is 30mph and heck in school zones it is 15mph.
Maybe I should just ride a bike or something!
The ticket is in the mail, and lesson learned I think. Everybody speeds, just some get caught! Ok, MAYBE not everybody, but I would say at some point and time 99.9% of the drivers have sped, maybe not even trying, but just didn't get caught.
I like to think of it this way, that Highway Patrolman has a family, he needs a job to support his family, and I am helping him. Along with making my South Dakota roads better, (smoother to go faster!)

Hey Peid, Sorry this is a late response but this thread popped up when I was doing a search. First off, it may not seem like he gave you a break dropping the ticket down to 90 mph. However, in the Midwest State I serve as a police officer, 20 mph over the speed limit equates to 4 points on your license instead of the 2 for speeding under 20mph over the speed limit. SO you sort of did get a break. I am in court nearly every day on people contesting speeding and other traffic violations. Our courts are so over burdened that we always work out plea agreements down to no point/vehicle equipment violations. You may have to appear twice in court (once for the initial appearance to plead not guilty and the second for a scheduled trial phase) but if you want to keep points off your license this is the best way to do it. No need to take in an attorney or a bad attitude. Just ask the prosecutor for a plea to a no point equipment violation. If you were respectful during the stop most officers will agree to the plea. Besides we don't want to spend all our off time sitting in court going to trial on speeding tickets.
