What led me to the Tundra....I got tired of feeling like I was dragging my but on the ground in the car and needed to get back into a truck. I also just bought a house so I needed something I could really use. I almost bought a Chevy (liked the looks better)but very glad I went the Toyota route. All my Chevy friends are having troubles.
'77 Toyota Corolla....INDESTRUCTABLE. Took that thing off road, had it airborne more times than I can count, did lots of wild driving (as a 16 year old will tend to do), had to change the tires about every 10K cuz they were worn out.......get the picture? Drove that thing 80K, and sold it to Mohamed Mohammad (hard to forget that name) who I saw driving it around town for a couple more years...You couldn't miss that thing cuz I had it "custom" painted.
'88 Toyota Pickup 4Cyl. 125K miles, trouble free. Fantastic truck.
'92 Toyota Pickup 3.0V-6. Not so trouble free. 2 head gasket failures at 60K and 120K (typical of the 3.0), with the second one locking up the engine). I also had brake problems and CV joint problems. Couldn't wait to get rid of that thing.
My first is an 85 4runner that I still have the clock says 155k more like 170k. I've had it 7 years ,new motor at 126k ,22re head gasket failure, oilburning..... Broke front springs wheeling put in 3" lift springs,32's. When I bought my Tundra I thought I would get rid of it but I couldn't part with it too much fun...
2000 4runner 22k only minor trim issues,door panels,roof rack,radio, all handled by dealer (eventually )
'77 Celica - Got taken out by a Ford Bronco sitting in front of my parent's house
'77 Celica (hatchback) - It's still running
'87 Corolla FX16 - Got wrapped around a telephone poll (by sister)
'79 Chevy van - Died at 120K
'87 4Runner - Still going w/ over 330,000 miles and very few problems
My family has had 11 Toyota's and all (except for the FX) have made it past the 200K mark w/ very few problems. Can't say the same for the one Chevy.

Dad had an 85 SR 5. Still running as far as I know.
I had a 77 Corolla. This car is dead. Sold it for $100.
The Wife currently has an 87 Celica GT Convertible.
My family has consistently owned Toyota's since the late 70's.
My personal vehicles have included:
1980 Celica - great car. It was doing well when I sold it for a Dodge conquest (a good runner, but not a good overall vehicle).
1985 Supra - another great car (bought it to replace the problemmatic Conquest), sold it to buy 4Runner. On a side note, it had the best seats of any car I've ever owned.
1988 4Runner (first year with the 3.0 V6) - sold it for 60% of it's original price after 6 years and 130K miles of flawless service.
1989 Corolla Alltrac wagon - wife's car that we sold only to buy her a new Subaru.
1997 4Runner - traded it in on the Tundra - excellent vehicle, but I wanted the V8!
