Default What does this mean in my owners manual

I reading my owners manual and under specifications for how much fluid or oil each part takes it list them like this.

example

Engine Lubrication
Oil capacity (drain and refill), L (gt., Imp. gt.):

2UZ-FE engine
With Filter 6.2 (6.5, 5.5)

I took an educated guess and went with putting 6.5 quarts of oil in my V8 4Runner by reading the owners manual and asking the guys in the parts department at Toyota

But can someone explain what the other letters are for, what does the "L" represent, the 1st "gt" has to be quarts, what does the "Imp." represent and why a second "gt" or is the "Imp. gt." together

I'm going to say that this is liters, quarts, and Imperial quarts. The imperial is just a english measure.
A bit of history on this: http://www.voy.com/111464/248.html

L = Liters

gt should be "qt" = Quart

6.5 US quarts = 6.151 liters (rounded to 6.2)

An Imperial quart ~ 1.136 us quarts

6.5 US quarts = 5.722 Imperial quarts

Why that's rounded down to 5.5 is interesting other than to make it simple for the consumer. Since you only need to worry about the US measurements, it's not a big deal.
