Default Do you play video games online? Here's how to fix your router for it.

So, you've got yourself some online gaming huh? Having issues with dropping out of the gaming lobby or joining some of your buddies rooms or with some of your buddies joining your rooms?

Lots of routers these days are 'Xbox LIVE' certified or set up for optimum gaming settings but most are not. If yours is not and you're not sure (like I was) what to do then here's what you're looking for.

Enter your router model number followed by the device you wish to make work properly (Xbox 360 for instance) and away you go! This site will tell you step by step how to forward ports and set up static IPs to eliminate these issues. You should note that you don't have to set up static IP for your computer unless you're gaming in it. Where it says it's important to set up static IP on your computer first it means your Xbox 360 or PS3 or whatever. I had problems for years and thought I had my ports forwarded properly and come to find out I needed to set up an IP outside of the range of the DHCP range of the router for the newly added rules to apply. So, make sure you make your static IP something outside of the range of your router so they apply. In other words, if your router's DHCP range looks like this:

192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.200

Then you need to make your static IP 192.168.0.201 or some number higher. If your router has the range that ends with 254 then adjust your range max to 253 and make your consoles IP 192.168.0.254.

Once I got all this straightened out I was able to play with people on the first invite that were never able to join my room before. Hopefully this helps others out too.
