This is a discussion thread titled "#^@#$# missed out on free tow mirrors", within the Off-Topic forum, part of the General Forums category.
one of my neighbors gets this DC standard bed tundra grade for his work truck courtesy of his company. it came with the tow mirrors. two days later, before i ever make it down there to talk to him about it, the regular mirrors are on it. so now i talked to him and he said his company bought the truck and they didnt need the tow mirrors because drivers complained about them being too wide so they ordered regular mirrors from the dealer and had them installed on his truck and let the dealer keep/discard the tow mirrors... #$^@#@# if i had known that i would have saved his company some money but like he says "corporate doesnt always make the best finaincial decisions" they just saw they needed to swap them out and had it done. now he went back to the dealer and of course the mirrors "have been disposed of by the customers request" dam dam dam.
Yea...I friggin love my tow mirrors. Pulled my boat with our GX470 today with the little dinky Lexus mirrors and I was lost and could barely see my boat behind the SUV. The Tundra tow mirrors opened up a whole new world in my life. It feels good.

Go over to the same dealership and ask if you can get tow mirrors installed. Tell them you are leaving on a camping trip tomorrow and can only do it if they can put them in today. If they say "yes" then you have to figure out whether or not they are offering to install your neighbors as new. If so, then you have 'em on two counts - selling used tow mirrors as new and reselling stuff that they took off from the previous guy. Tell them your neighbor is will be calling back to get his tow mirros. It's a dirty trick but they have to do something even more dirty to get caught.

Tricky, but what if they actually have them in stock? lol
I wish I could find a set but the regular mirrors are still freakin' huge. I like 'em but then again, I haven't driven one with tow mirrors yet. Did drive a Titan with 'em and a SD. The Super Duties are by far the best I've ever seen.

Very unlikely that would happen. Nobody in the dealership makes enough on the parts sale to make this beneficial. The parts are probably in a mechanic's bay, waiting for the right time to use them. The mechanic might have a friend who has a Tundra. He might use them as a bagraining chip with the used car manager if a used Tundra comes in and needs mirrors. If he doesn't find a use for them before he cleans out his work area next, then they will get tossed.

I was thinking the same thing. At the dealership I worked for the Techs kept, sold and traded the good used parts. The dealership never sold them as new. I do believe we had good used stuff we would sell in the parts area as "used items".
I got a TRD spoiler for my celica, TRD Front Bumper, TRD Tacoma exhaust and many others for free this way. If the customer does not wan the item back at the time of removal/replacement/or vehicle pickup it is considered trash so if an employee wants the trash who cares. Since the truck had them replaced and then was picked up without requesting the old parts they are gone. Even if they have a pile of used mirrors sitting there the customer did not want them at the time so they are no longer his.
AND it is a bummer you missed out on them. I wish I had a decent set for my gen 1

i used to work in the service department at a chevy dealer back in high school/college as the quality control guy (yeah i know, hard to be QC and chevy at same time). i learned most of those parts wind up in the techs bays until the "right time" as posted above. i imagine though, a tech now has these mirrors on his own truck- as much discounts as the trucks have right now im sure some of the techs snatched one also. dont blame him just wish i would have been there first. haha
