Screw it all...I'm moving to China, where they don't have to worry about silly things like liberals or environmental policy...just pure unadulterated profit off the developed nations of the world.

I really don't think you want to do that. I lived in China. It's a **** hole. In 2006, one out of every 2 new cancer cases worldwide was in China. More people die of pollution-caused deaths in China than anywhere else in the world. Our apartment was part of a hotel. We were on the 37th floor of a 3-tower building. The towers were separated by about 150ft. 2 days a week, I couldn't see the other towers. When I landed in Beijing last year, I couldn't see the terminal from the runway due to the pollution.
I imagine that turn of the 21st century China is probably a lot like what turn of the 20th century America was like.

LOL.
It's a human hive, individual rights don't count for much.
No regulations, no red tape, unfettered investment; it all sound good until you realize the consequences. China is what we'd be like if no limits were placed on power.

That's the best description I've ever heard used. Human Hive sums it up perfectly.

Oh, y'all should know I'm being cynical and sarcastic...
Sounds like you just have to be the right person in China.
But what I really mean is more along the lines of that American Dream thread...if you're honest, it just means you're easier to screw. Being dishonest seems to be the only way to make a buck these days...just twist the system to your advantage, it's perfectly legal, and the government will force all the honest people to pick up the pieces.

Oh I got your sarcasm all right. And you're right about that. But I'm not sure if your cynicism is entirely right. Not to take on Jan's role (heaven forbid) but I know lots of honest people that are doing all right. And some of the dishonest people may have done OK in the markets, have a bigger plasma TV or what have you and they're no happier.
I believe that once you have enough to put food on the table for your family, you can enjoy some recreation, have good social contacts, and your health, more isn't better. It LOOKS better to those of us who have less, but some of the least happy people I know are those sitting on money that they got unfairly. Maybe legally, but there's a difference. It doesn't make them happier. In fact, it ties them down.

Even if you are an honest person, you still have to have enough financial savvy to know not to buy into a bubble. That is why I place most of the blame on our public education system that doesn't teach even the basics of personal finance and money management.

Cynicism? Here? Get out.
I thought at one point while living in China that being the right person would be better. Fact is, even if you're rich there, you still have to breathe poisoned air & drink poisoned water.
