Great info!!! The one thing that caught my eye was the horsepower on that Dodge 318. I 'm not a racer but thier is a guy at work that has a 01 Dakota extra cab that brags how fast it is and how my tundra is a peice of s**t. I was under the impression that my truck was no match. Do you think I should take him on . P S the Dakota is a stock 4x4

I thought the 01 Dakotas had a 4.7-liter v8 not the 5.2-liter v8. Either way it would be very close because the Tundra (especially yours) is heavier than a Dakota. I think the Dakotas run low 16's in the quarter mile.
It would be a good idea to do it at a track too. It’s safer!

And of course we would run only in a closed area. I have access to a closed parking lot that is 1.5 miles long. I would only try this guy if I were sure I could win , other wise I'd hear it forever.
Well if you lose what's the big deal! If you are worried about him making a big deal out of it than forget it. It's pretty dumb anyway because you guys are talking about pickup trucks! Does it really matter whose is quicker?
My best guess is that he might get the jump on you but you will edge him out in the quarter mile if you aren’t too heavy.

No pain, no gain dude. Yea, he may break your balls if he wins, but think of the nice cup of SHUT THE F&*% UP he'll get if you take him!
Like V8Toilet said, lighten the truck (pull the tailgate and drop the spare) and you'll probably edge him out in the 1/4 mile.
Some other tips are to use 3/4 throttle off the line until 2500 rpm then stomp on it and either manual shift at 5000-5200 (before you hit the rev limiter) or let the auto do its thing. (Also, leave overdrive ON, not off.)
If you stay with him, he can't claim the Tundra is a POS and if you edge him out, you've got braggin' rights. Either way, it's still a good adrenalin rush!
Be safe and if you do decide to do it, let us know the results!
Seee-ya!
Jim.

I hear ya Tremo I'm not much into beating on my 30,000$ truck if ya Know what I mean. I used to do a lot of racing in my younger years ( Wow I'm too young to say that!!). When I was 17 I got a 86 formula and raced every mustang I could find.

Oh by the way that guy I want to race is a boss
Aaaah...win the race, lose your job (potentially)! Got it!
Yea, I hear re beating on your nice (expensive) truck, but 1/4 mile stuff ain't no more hard on your truck then merging on the freeway to 75mph...
I wish I was smart like you, but unfortunately I've got the bug and I'll be back at it later this year...
Seee-ya and thanks for the reply...
Jim.

I did the dyno run because I was curious to see how my truck compared to others in power. Everyone there was great and didn't rub anything in anyone’s face. It was a lot of fun too and I found out that my truck doesn't respond like it should to modifications because the computer just overly richens the mixture. It was money well spent!
If this guy is being really immature about it than forget him.

Wow,what happened to the Hemi's 345 hp? The Tundras claim 245(or 240) and deliver 205+.The Dodge claims 345 and delivers 235?? 110 hp down??If I had bought a Hemi based on the claim of 345 hp,I would have expected at least 280 or so.The Hemi owner must have wondered what had happened.Guess Dodge just lied.Charlie PS The 680+ lb-ft for the Ford must be at a very low(1600-2200 rpm) rpm.If it got that at 3000+ it would be making even bigger HP.
