Watch closely and you will see this genius climb on top of the fuel truck, reach in his pocket, and take out his lighter (yes...his lighter!!!) to look inside the fuel tank!
That reminds me of this story my dad tells every now and then of when he was in the Coast Guard in the early 60's. I think it was in Basic, but I'm not sure. They were teaching them something about fire control and the instructor was using a lit cigarette to demonstrate something where he had an full and open gas can and would hold the cigarette all around the opening and down inside. I don't the point of that was, but he said it never ignited.

Ha! And to think in Oregon we can't pump our own gas for safety reasons.

Sure that wasn't diesel? Where's a mythbuster when you need one? I don't know anything about diesel. Maybe I'm thinking of liquid hydrogen...bleah.

Its JP5 and used on ships, it has a high flash point, but I have fought fires when its burning and if you do not have light water its very hard to put out.
I laughed out loud when i saw that video clip for the first time, ( right in the middle of a major Bp safety meeting) that dumba$$ wasn't using a cigarette lighter. He was using the screen on his cellphone as a flashlight! I didn't believe it was possible to cause an explosion that way ( I saw the mythbuster episode where they tried it out) but it is! Because of accidents like the one on the video, all persons who work in the petroleum industry are now required to use only intrinsicly safe or FM ( factory mutualy approved ) cellphones on jobsites.
This is true. It was done intentionally to create jobs in an low-employment state like Oregon. Hell theres even a law governing the mandate behind it too!

Sanosuke!
Yeah, but whenever there is a push to repeal it, the liberals hide behind safety as the reason for keeping it. They don't want to admit it's just another stupid government work program.

Aren't there warnings around most gas pumps about the hazards of cell phone use while refueling? I wonder which came first, the warnings or this video.
