Default Video Editing

Can anyone recommend a good application for editing video files? AVI, MPG, RM, etc.?

Thanks.

Windows Movie Maker is fairly Simple & easy and already a part of XP. I guess it depends on what you want to do. I use it with a Mini DV camera and firewire. Also at work, I use a stand alone editor from Casablanca.

I use firewire heavily as its my preferred transport medium for working with video camera data.

I use Vegas Pro a lot to import DVR MPEG and AVI files and convert them into DVD formats, or vice versa. I've used Adobe Premier and Scenarist, but Vegas is by far the best streaming editor I've ever used. It never seems to lag out while you're editing a video file. I think you can pick up a scaled down version of Vegas Movie Studio for about $80 at Best Buy.

Adobe Premier used to be the best, maybe a little more sophisticated than what you are looking for though.

Movie Maker is free and I've used both Movie Maker and Adobe Premier and Premiere Pro. I prefer the Adobe products.

Nope. Don't have it.

But I have the Windows XP Professional Edition. It's not the same as the Home Edition or the Multimedia Edition.

I prefer my Casablanca, but the Movie Maker is simple and does simple things relatively well.

I have XP Pro too. Run a search for it or look in Programs for a "Movie Maker" folder. I have it at home and work on my XP machines and on this Vista laptop I have. If nothing else you should be able to add it from the XP disk.
