In 3 years, who knows where gas prices will be, and what cars will be on the market? If gas stabilizes, or drops in price the car market will remain unchanged, and these new engines will fade back into obscurity, I think.
Maybe they'll catch on in the emerging Indian and Asian markets, and that might reduce fuel demand here in the US. It seems unlikely that the US oil industry will roll over and put up no market resistance to engines that use so little gas.
