This is a discussion thread titled "Wierd tow truck guy at 6am", within the Off-Topic forum, part of the General Forums category.
tow truck guy just came to my house looking for someone because the bank ordered him to reposses a van... looking for someone named Javier and asking all these questions about how long we've been living here and info for police report that he's going to have to file, blah blah. Weird that all our info / address was on the paper just the name wasan't right. I told him does it look like anyone named Javier lives here and do we even have a van? (we're asian soo uh Javier lol uhm NO). Thought he was gonna jack my Tundra for a second lol. I don't understand how our address and information was on that repossesion paper, just the name wasan't right. Anyways he's gone now, I needa go to sleep. Any ideas on how this could happen?

Someone used your address and info when they bought a car..identity theft..not sure...maybe javier had the address changed from his old one to a random one, yours, to avoid the repo man.
Lot of possibilities with this one.
Probably some dirty illegal.

I had the same thing happen. A tow truck was driving by my house a few times this one week (Iwork out in my garage alot) then finally one day he stops. He asks if Paco/Pablo/ Pick a name lives here and that they are looking for a Toyota minivan to repo. BUT my house was a rental and I bought it about a year ago so that is probably how mine happened.

I think the 1st thing I would have done, was go inside and call the cops. It could have been some dirtbag trying to scam personal info out of you. Let him explain all that to a police officer.

Yeah some one had to use your info for them to just come up to your house like that better hope your truck don't get towed Your house maybe repoed next
When you say all the information and address was on the paper work, what other information was yours? Was your social sercurity numbers used yours? or just the address?
Now I am not in the repo business but if the banks info for the last know residence is wrong why does the repo man need need to file a police report about that. People move and don't update their mailing address for everything. So him asking question to file a police report sounds suspicious.
More then likely he was there to steal your truck or any other vehicle outside. It is a great way to check to see if anyone is home. He scopes out the neighborhood for while and gets your address and makes something that looks official for repossession of a van. He knocks on your door to see if you are home. If not then goodbye truck. If you are home the he uses the story of looking for Joe Blow who drives a 1994 POS van and we need to repossess it. Now during this time he asks question getting more info that he might use in the future. You might say something as innocent as yea that my truck and that's my wife's Camry. Now he knows when you are not home and your wife is home alone.

Also, wouldn't the Repo man have the info from the bank directly and not need to ask for it unless the Bank discovers the information is wrong? Why would the Repo Man ask to file a police report? That is just so wrong. They are in the repossession business! I would consider that guy who came to your door, to be a information harvester -- the first step in any identity theft scheme. Never reveal who YOU are and always ask for a piece of identification to identify the person who is speaking to you it is your right. If they do not show you the ID, tell them to get off your property or you would call the cops and have the guy arrested.
