but anyway, I had a 93 civic, b18c w/ the fixin, fully built top/bottom all naturally asperated good stuff... spent quite abit of cash into that ride... too bad I never drove it that often... it sat in the shop more than it did in my driveway also had a 93 integ too that i used as a daily driver <-- this one was def a ricer lol...

The good thing about that import era (since it's been along time..) was that I had help from friends who had shops good to have those kinds of connections so gettin parts were easy. Already had friends doing 11's back then (which was fast... now it's like 8-9's... omg...). I wanted an all motor vehicle so turbo/nos/sc was out of the question. had to be different so the b18 was the only way, b16 just didn't cut it. experimented with some b18 hybrids. back then, transplant was still non existant... so I guess u can say I was one of the founding morons that starting that stuff.. lol when the transplant begain back then, it was all stolen motors (as you can imagine) so it was indeed some scary times... good thing all my stuff were legit!

hittin 13's was pita. lots of work, changing this, trying this etc etc as you can imagine. ignition was redone, even experimented w/ individual tb's too that was fun, motec and the crazy stuff... but those were the good 'ol days.

Now i'm into this offroading craze so I know I'll be even more broke!

if ya want stories on the import scene, we should talk cuz those were some good times! hehe

Lance
I used to go to the street races, but the NY/NJ/PA spots have gotten pretty stupid the past few years. Anyone with $50 in decals and a muffler think they're racers It was fun before,I go to the drag strip now, besides I work there sometimes

13's all-motor in a Civic isn't too hard to do,in a hatchback body style that is. I dropped in a B18C5 swap in a friend's 92 hatch, his first time ever at the track he was running 14.5s. Two days later at an event he ran a 13.8 but wasn't too happy because he was running in a bracket class and dialed in a 14.0. All that was done to it was a intake pipe/filter,header,crush-bent exhaust (with cat),fuel pump, and a clutch (might as well since the engine was out). It didn't even have the LSD-equipped tranny,he was running a 99 Si trans on it. Another friend with a B18C swap and the same mods was running 13.3s during that same event, best time was a 13.1. The only other things he did was drop the exhaust and run small sicks (20x8x14 MTs). Neither car had anything done to the motors, unless you consider a new timing belt, water pump, and oil pump modifications.

I'm not just into imports either,I enjoy working on anything that runs fast. I feel equally comfortable working on a supercharged Mustang for Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine as I am installing nitrous on a Supra as I am swapping a motor into a Civic.

Default One thing confuses me???

One thing confuses me???

Why do people buy these brand new Accords, Civics, Celicas, Protozes, Sentras, etc. for $17k to $25k then dumb another $10k for mods just to get their car to the 12's in the 1/4 mile. When all they had to do is buy a used Toyota Supra TT and they could have same 1/4 times or better with a totally stock vehicle.

One other thing that totally cracks me up. Evertime I drive my Supra, there is always some young dumb @ss kid in a Honda Civic trying to get in a street race with me. I'm sorry, but a $600 after market exhaust is not going to beat my Supra. I just inch forward like I'm gonna race, the light turns green and off they go racing by themselves. LOL! They look so STUPID!

Now when someone in a Viper, NSX, C5, M3, M5, or a Cobra joins me at a light, I usually play with them till we hit the speed limit, then I back off!

I'll take a stab at answering your question. It's not the 1/4 mi. time, it's making a 17 sec. car do it in 13. If you buy a 12 sec. Supra the challenge then becomes getting it to do 9 sec. 1/4's.

I personally enjoy pushing middle of the line things to their limits, too bad I sold my '93 Tercel maybe I could get it into the 20's, LOL.

Both cars I mentioned were bought for under $5k;the engine swap + mods another $5k;labor was next to nothing, they paid me through lunch, dinner, and beer Both go to school and have low-wage part-time jobs,a Supra was out of their budget. Maybe later on when they've graduated, student loans are paid for and have a good paying job, both of them would love to own a Supra. They're not going to wait that long to own a 13-second car even if their choice of vehicle confuses a Supra owner or two (BTW that's meant as a joke, hence the clown smilie, don't take it personally)

Default 13 Second Car!

13 Second Car

How about a used All Trac Turbo Celica with about $1,500 in mods you can get the car to 250hp. Same goes for the Eagle Talon, Mitsu Eclispe. Old RX7's are great candidates too!

My second car was a 1979 Toyota Celica with a 1981 Celica motor (2.2liter 20R motor vs. 2.4liter 22R motor) with TRD Headers, CAM, ignition, street/race brakes, and a Mikuni carb, 20R Heads and limited slip rear end.

Car was very fast for its time. This was around 1989-1991. Quarter mile was around the mid to low 15 seconds. Wish I had that car today.

Man,I wish I could find a decent All Trac. The last one I saw was in horrible body condition, and they wanted like $12K for it!
I hear ya about AWD turbo cars. I just found out a friend bought a new Mitsubishi Evo. With a downpipe or hollowed cat (don't have exact details on that yet) and a boost controller he ran a 12.7. He's probably one of the best drivers I've met...he goes through cars like people go through underwear.

Hey,whad'ya have mods-wise on that Supra of yours?

An acquaintance of mine has a Pontiac Fiero with a Supercharged 3800 engine in the back. Last I talked to him he was running consistent 12.7 quarter mile times with a 1.6 60-foot time.

I also have a video of a V8 Fiero running 11.2 seconds in the quarter mile somewhere.

My brother in law has a 99 mitsubishi eclipse for sale. It has the 2.0 liter turbo motor coupled to the all wheel drive transmission. It has a locker in the rear and a limited slip in the front. The stock turbo has been replaced with a texas turbo charger I believe it is a t4. He has a racing downpipe, clutch, boost controller, external waste gate, blow off valve, 3 inch racing exhaust, lowered 1 1/2 inches with a custom suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars. From the outside of the vehicle (white) it looks like a stock GST minus the lowering. He has drag radials and the stock GST rims. Dark tint. It is funny when we go riding around because he has the muffler out the back that kinda looks like a standard ricer fart pipe. But when he punches it, god help us. A few weeks ago we got a chance to race a Ws6. Not really a race. He was messing with us (thinking another whippin coming on). He gave it a little hell of the line and then let us catch up. At the next light he floored it, and my bro in law let the ws6 get a decent lead, then he floored it, let the turbo sing to us, and passed the Ws6 with ease. I tell you the turbo rush from this car is awesome. The last dyno he had was with 2wd, and a smaller failing turbo he got a 310 rwhp and 295 rwtq. Since then he has upgraded the turbo (much larger) and converted to awd. We figure the car is running low 12's high 11's. It was running low 13's with major wheels spin (front wheel drive before conversion) and a smaller failing turbo.......He is trading it in for a Infinite G35 sports coupe. Any takers???

Default Speakin' of races

Nver had a rice burner -- I had a pretty uplifting lunch break today.

My girlfriend and I were driving back to work on De Soto Ave(for those that live in the Valley) came to a light on Victory Blvd. It's a three lane street - I'm on the 3 lane-- I look to my left and Mr cool guy in his 01-02 Silverado 1500 is reving his engine and blasting his music-- I look at the light --look back at him and still staring-- I was like okay --- LET'S DO THIS (in my head)--- now mind you he's on the number one lane--and a small car in between us.

The light turns green -- BAM -- I punched that gas and off I go --I look at the gauge and read 61/2 psi -- by the time I got across the the street I was a 2 car lenghts ahead oh him-- after seeing him in my rearview at about 55-60--I let off--while coming to another light about 70-80 yards from where we started--here he comes speeding like a bat out of hell--pulled up next to me--he couldn't even look at me!! My girl said, "you should've seen his face-- he looked so mad while he was pulling up next to you .."

Another one bites the dust !!!

I have a different video of that truck at the launch. Atleast I think it is the same truck. They're identical. He has to launch in 4wheel drive and it still spins the tires. The videa is on my home pc. I'll post it if I can find it.
