Got carried away with the title...Anyways lol. I need some good ideas for things to do on Thanksgiving day and some ways to prepare the turkey. We have our tradition at this cabin on the withlacoochee river or however you spell that...I like the last part anyways. Yea I need some good ideas for preparing two turkey's. We usually deep fry one and smoke/rotisarrie the other one and they never turn out perfect but always taste great somehow. Yea so how do you guys prepare the turkey(s) and what other stuff do you guys do?? We do bonfire, drink lots of beer, shoot guns, ride my g-pa's 3 riding lawn mowers, take the fishing boat down the coochee river, etc etc.

I eat chicken for Thanksgiving...I never was to keen on eating the gobbly bird.
My cousins and I tend to sit around, talk, and drink a bunch of beer...munching on whatever we can get our hands on while we wait for the moms to make the food.

Yea same here...All the dads and dudes just screw around all day while the mom's/women are in the kitchen chattering all day and doing little cooking and all the dudes wander through the kitchen throughout the day because we have to "sample" the food to make sure its not poisonous.

All of us cousins that are around the same age usually escape the house for a few hours...either the movies or something else...helps pass time downtime while we wait for the food.

True that...yea there aren't any movies where we go for thanksgiving...its pretty rustic but that makes it even more fun.

Whatever you guys do... don't tease poor kaleo here in Hawaii. He's going to be cooped up in the kitchen all day tomorrow prepping the turkey for the holidays at work. ;(
I'll be smoking one bird on Wednesday and then baking one in the oven on Thursday. I likes me my leftovers.

I like to deep fry mine, the wife likes it baked. I usually win. Have fun at the river, I'm going to try and take my boat out this weekend after I get the lights hung, hopefully I don't get too drunk.

I need a new word of the month people!
Since you’re having a bonfire anyway, you could try the pit-barbeque technique, we used to do this down in Mexico for Memorial Day. Dig a pit big enough for the bird(s) but about a foot deeper. The night before build a fire in the pit and keep it going till there’s a nice bed of coals. In the morning add a few pieces of wood to get the coals freshened up and while they are burning down, prepare the turkeys.
Season per your own tastes but we would take whatever spices we could find and rub them on the bird with about a stick of butter inside and out, then stuff the cavity with sliced up onions and celery. Then wrap each one in two or three layers of foil, now the important part, find an old sheet (it will be damaged but still usable for future efforts) and soak it in water, wrap the bird in the wet sheet and tie it good with baling wire leaving a piece sticking up long enough to protrude above ground. Put an inch or two of dirt on the coals and then the birds, bury everything and have fun doing whatever. Cooking time depends on the amount of turkey but for two good size birds, we would wait about three hours and pull them up by the wire sticking out of the ground.
We never had leftovers!

I'll go into the DFAC, grab a tray and some plasticware, and probably bypass the turkey if it is soaked in gravy as usual, and go for the chicken. Hopefully they'll have pumpkin pie.
Ask me again next year.

Whoa that sounds really cool and probably tastes great! I'll throw out the idea on Thurs. We have a nice fire pit built up there from years of use so we'll see.
