Yep, they have the authority and there is nothing you can do about it. Dealing with traffic cops during a traffic stop is all about minimizing the damage. Self control....you must submit fully and cooperate...anything else will only create more problems.

My (dad) comes from a Police family background his brother was a detective (now retired) and he worked for the Police for 15 year's so Yea i know a lot about certain crimes pertaining to the Fresno California area.
It's just funny to watch the stuff that goes on around in today generation. With cameras being allowed in Police car's you get to see some intresting stuff. I never did have any intrest in Law but I kept up with some aspect's of it.

I agree 110% percent. I've learned that that arguing with a cop gets you absolutely no where...literally. Fighting the ticket with the cop is just flat out stupid...he's going to give it to you anyways. Fighting the ticket is with the judge
If I know I've been speeding, I know I deserve the ticket. But I also don't like people telling me I'm wrong...who does though right? The last time I got a ticket, I got it for "Unsafe Start" Just handed him my info and closed the window. Theres nothing else to be said between the officer and me besides "sign here".
Yep, anything else is pretty much a waste of breath. Once they shine that red dot on your front plate, your destiny is sealed. Any defiance and you might as well empty your bank account and set fire to the larger bills.
At first it seems like it could be a big oops on the driver but does it not sound like he is continuesly reving up the motor?
the force of the collision might have knocked him out...? because of that he wouldn't know his foot was on that pedal..? oh well, it's all speculation but I don't think anyone would on purpose demolish a nice car like that, considering the consequences...

Maybe but does not the driver stop it after several commands from the officer? I understand his unconscienceness could have been only temporary.
Either he planed to ram the crap out of the guys squad car or he planed to floor it from the starting position and put it in the wrong gear.
The only reason I would believe he wasn't knocked out is because it sounds like the car is reving up and down like the driver was intentionally pressing the gas pedal and letting off several times. I would assume that if you were knocked out your foot would just rest on the gas pedal instead of hoping on and off. In saying that im not sure what the computer program in vehicle would do in a situtation like that, would it detect the abnomily and act accordingly regardless if the driver's foot is pressing the accelerator.
I just heard earlier a cop was involved in a local accident. He was rear ended when someone behind him got rear ended by a person whos foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas...
Plus I'm sure most of you have seen pics of people driving through a parking lot barrier, or driving off in the wrong direction into the water, etc because of people selecting the wrong gear or their foot slipping off the brake. I guess it could happen easily if you intend to leave the car idling but forget to take it out of gear before lifting off the clutch.
It would be interesting to hear how this particular accident worked out. I'm sure if the guy was knocked out the cop wouldnt have kept repeating himself to turn the ignition off.
