I like Millsp's suggestion...less emphasis on membership rank, status, contribution, etc. as related to post count...cuz with the OT streetwalkers, post count doesn't mean much these days...so this is sorta a "color of the cake" modification and I think the engine thing works well with the forum.
Also I like CB's last suggestion .
and times eleventybillion for OT
...it would be good if "custom user title" were available to all, if it isn't already.
Andy...the dragline has spoken, "Eyeball Andy" is your new nick.
THANK YOU all for pitching some suggestions, here's what I got (so far):
0 - 99, Rookie Member
100 - 499, Junior Member
500 - 1499, Veteran Member
1500 - 3999, Major Contributer
4000 - 6999, Senior Contributer
7000 - 9999, Legendary Contributer
10000 - 19999, ... Supercharged Member
20000+, member's choice (we'll contact you after your 20,000th post)
I'd switch those two around. You can add:
Hall of Fame Contributer for 30k and up

Like you, userw5, I mostly lurk these days but I certainly remember your more active days 6 or 7 years ago.
May I suggest that TS turns OFF the post count for posts in the OT?
That way, only relevant, contributing posts will count toward one's post total.
EDJ
Hi Joe,
We've tried that idea before back when OT was called General Chat. The downside is that we're saying to those members who post in OT that their posts in that forum are less meaningful that those who post in the Tundra forum. However I have looked at some of the posts in the other forums and honestly many are just as meaningless.
We would also be sending the message to those members who post mostly in OT that their posts are less valuable than those who post in any other forum and that my friends is simply not true.
It really boils down to who is the most active in the forum overall and a measurement of that activity right now is based primarily on post count. We also have a member reputation system but it's largely unused. I'll look into additional systems that measure member activity and see what I can come up with but until then post count must reign as the only measurement of member activity.

how dare you say our wonderful OT discussions about evolution, truck nutz, closing eyes, obama, god knows what else, are irrelevant.
ooh. another post for me!!!
Uhmmm...we (OT peeps) dont know this guy LOL
We like to keep things fun around here, while we learn and help others with Toyota related issues, and we all contribute in our own way

I need a new word of the month people!
Post count and how long a member's been in the forum should be the two main factors. If you have a person who just joined six months ago and have 1500 posts already, to me that's hardly a senior member (not directed at anyone specifically). Active longivity should be a major consideration.

i thought long and hard about that one...
either my lack of the english language is my "get out of jail card", or i have misinterpreted your posting...
you're saying that someone who has a lot of time on his or her hands can not place 1500 posts in 6 months, among which there could be some very usefull ones..?
if that's what you're saying, i dare to disagree...!!
if that's not what you're saying.... oh well....
where's my card..??

I think what he's saying is that to be a senior member, more consideration should be placed on the time you've been a member, not just how many posts you have.
For if you come here 6 months ago and post 1500 times, you shouldn't have as much "reputation" or whatever word you wanna put in there, as someone who's been here 2 years but has 1500 posts.
I like that system btw.

Maybe like for every month you've been inactive, your Rep points should go down a notch. Or if you've been away for 6 months, you would drop down from Senior Member to Junior member and six months later with no activity, you drop down another rank.
