Anyone know or recommend any home surveillance systems:
Here are the requirements:
Cheap
Easy to install (Self install)
Wide Angle Camera
Night Vision
Motion Sensor
Water Proof
Digital Recording to a computer
The reason why I'm asking someone broke into my in-laws truck in their drive way by popping out the entire rear window and then stealing the stereo system. There was no alarm installed on the truck, I know that would of helped but now their is a sense of insecurity at their place and would like a home surveillance system.
Any recommendations would be greatful. Thanks!

I am from the vandalism capital of the SW and believe me an alarm on the truck would have sent those slime balls packing and no broken window or missing stereo! East target= no alarm, just put cheap Clifford alarm with extra LED slider indicator and they will not touch it! No such thing as a cheap home system and good luck getting (50) to respond to an alarm before they take everything! i accidentaly set my home alarm off and it took them 45 minutes to arrive at my house. They said they had other pressing priorities and that was why it took so long, and if it happened again and was not a real break in i would be charged? Home alarms would be ADT or someone like that?
Costco has a variety of home systems for the do-it-yourselfer. If I were going to invest in a home system I would probably go there as the prices are usually quite good.

I bought an Astak 2.4gig wireless Surveillance System at Walmart for 80.00 about 2 years ago.You can hook it up to a Vcr or Dvr and record. It says its in color but the colors are limited and it says it' wireless but thats not totally true because the camera part needs A.C. power. It has a battery connector attach but that's a BIG joke because the camera uses so much power that the 9v battery last about 30 -40 mins. With Ac hooked up it's a nice unit and does a have a very good pic in day or night. You have to play around with the receiver to get optimum picture. It comes with 2 cameras.I have one on the front of the house and the other on the back.I would definitely buy it again.

If it was my car, I would of had an alarm installed in the first place before I do any kind of stereo system. All my cars have had factory or aftermarket alarms.
As for ADT, I'm not looking into getting that type of system for my in-laws. I just want a couple cameras where it records anything when it detects motion.

as for alarms on cars, people can get in and out so fast it doesnt even matter. as a cop most of my reports i have taken over the years have had factory alarms or aftermartket alarms that either didnt trigger because they just popped the glass and didnt set off a shock sensor or something. or they went off and no one cared.
Thanks Stu. I'll have to check what brand Costco carries.
Also JRE, how reliable have the cameras you bought at Walmart been?
Not too bad,I've had a few quirks. We had a thunder storm and the image reversed on the camera,I guess from the lighting, and is still like that but the pic. quality is unaffected. In the summer when it's really hot or bright sun,I'm not exactly sure of the cause but the camera's video will wash out. This has happened 2 or 3 times and last about 30-60 mins. but the pic. did come back. For the price I paid and considering the camera is out in the elements 24/7 I still think it's a pretty good system.

These days they just look in the car for anything of value to get them that METH fix and they will brake a expensive window for anything they can sell for a 10 dollar bag of crack! On those home surveillance systems you get what ya pay for from what i have seen. The cheap systems are reasonable but you get poor quality video and 2 cameras that need a light source to get that poor image. I also cut off ADT since it took 45 minutes for PD to show up, and if i am at home they will have to contend with me and my little friend, a Benelli SBEII with an extended Magazine! It is legal to protect yourself in NM, if you are inside your residence.

My 93 Toy had been broken into twice with no alarm and since i put an alarm and an extra LED slidder on it no one has touched it in the past 5 years which is a miracle here in ABQ! If they see something they want and can get in and out fast i agree, the alarms would not matter much especially if it's parked in a place where they can hit and run fast! Good luck with getting a system to potect your in laws deluxx!http://www.homesecuritystore.com/ezS...1_1_1_0_0_110#

I have looked everywhere for a good day/night home security system with 16 cams and good night vision (100' or more of night visibility) cameras. Then I want to monitor it on the internet and also store the data on a large (off site) hard drive.
COSTCO has had the best prices. COSTCO had a system that was on sale this past summer that was super ... but that sale is over now.
COSTCO is always changing their sales on COSTCO.com (deals that are usually not available in the stores).

Best bet is to not advertise to the world what you have. If you can peek into the house/vehicle through a window and see all the good stuff, you have already lost. I had one case at a house that had security cameras on the outside that recorded 24/7. The dirt bag went up to their vehicle, ripped out the lock and then stole the stereo. Took him about 3 minutes total. Camera system was easily seen from outside and it was a decent system. It was great at showing that the crime actually took place, that was about it.
In that, if you are going to buy one, spend the extra money and get a good quality system, not just a cheap one. One that records a very clear imagine instead of a fuzzy, static style image. Also don't just cover your driveway, think about a total 360 degree view around your house if you want to feel even more warm and fuzzy.

Although insurance companies embraced the idea of car alarms they did provide some criteria for what kind of alarms were acceptable. I don't think any of Bond's cars were insured.
