While I don't want this turned into another "religious" thread, I'm guessing it will, I'm rather stunned about John Travolta's 16-year-old son Jetts' death.
I really feel for the Travolta family and their loss, I can't imagine what they are going through.
But from what I've read about the Scientology faith, it seems as though modern medicine is something that they stay away from.
That they seek "conventional medical treatment for medical conditions..."
It sounds as though Jett could have been treated with modern medicine and his death possibly could have been avoided.
So...................
Is this Scientology faith so biased, so....I hate to use the term but what the....so "cult" like that the parishioners are brainwashed?
I just can imagine a parent with all thats available in modern medicine that they would turn their heads hoping for an alternative miracle.
Scientologists believe they are descended from a superior alien race that once inhabited the earth and they are possessed with 'skills' and talents, i.e. actors/singers etc. which allow them to earn vast amounts of wealth to help humanity, so they've turned themselves into their own gods in believing so.
It's easy to believe/get brainwashed if you really believe its all about you.
While were at it, if you believe God is the true Creator, how tempting it must be for the most creative people, i.e. actors/singers, along with others, etc. to 'create' their own belief system? While this doesn't include every single scientologist, it explains why so many in Hollywood with their ego's get suckered into it.

Theres an article somewhere stating that Jett Travolta infact did take medication for his seizures. Something as serious as Kawasaki Disease you think would HAVE to be treated with some sort of medication.
Kinda makes you wonder how hardcore religion people always put exceptions to their own faiths.

Apparently the religion does not allow drug treatments for psychological diagnoses, I've also heard he didn't have Kawasaki disease, instead he was Autistic.
Autism, according to the Scientologists, is a mental problem, not a physical one.
What's the difference between a Mormon not allowing a blood transfusion and a Scientologist not allowing drug treatments (almost sounds like there should be a punchline inserted here), in my opinion...nothing.
Is no different from being a Christian or a Jew or a Muslim or whatever. They all started as cults.

In the realm of religion a "cult" is what a particular religion or sect calls the opposition.
religion = cult. doesn't matter which one or what your beliefs are

This is a sad story but it ticks me off as well. Let me explain. Kawasaki disease is a condition that affects few children under 5. Symptoms include: rash, fever, enlarged lymph nodes, etc. Most kids recover within days. My oldest son was suspected of having it at about 18 months. He recovered quickly as do most kids. If untreated it can get better all by itself, or cause some serious heart issue and inflamation. Seizures are NOT a symptom of this disease. It's truly a sad story for Travolta and his wife and I feel for them, but I really believe that his son did NOT have this disease and was quite possibly developmentaly delayed by something else. While I suspect he was autistic there seems to be no way to prove it. However, as a special ed teacher for quite some time I always felt that Travolta's son displayed several autistic characteristics. His belief system seems to have clouded any reasonable judgement or questioning of his son's diagnosis. With Travolta's notoriety, he could have been a great spokesperson for autism and brought his personal story to the public. Instead it seems as if he made up an elaborate story to fit within the parameters of his belief system.
My heart and prays goes out to the Travolta's on the loss of their son, Jett. I hope they will be able to keep their marriage together, as couples who lose children have very high divorce rates. I hope they will recieve some godly counsel to help them deal with their grief.
May the God of all comfort manifest Himself to them, as hopefully they will seek Him out in their time of need. May they be able to say as Job did, "the Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the Name of the Lord."
