I am one...by the simple fact that the tupperware in our house consists of margarine containers that I refuse to throw away...great for holding all of the odd bolts I have left over from various projects as well.
Seriously, if I think I can do it, I will.
Yesterday we bought OB a new stereo for her neon with our tax refund, the guy at best buy was trying his damndest to get me to buy a dodge/chrysler wiring harness for $22. I said "Naw, I've got plenty of butt connectors at home, so I'll just wire it up. No matter how you do it, you still have to connect wires."
He refused to believe me, and kept giving me excuses to buy the damned thing...like, "HOw will you know which speaker wires go to what speakers?"
me: "I'll turn the stock radio on, and start cutting speaker wires, as the speaker goes out, I'll label the appropriate wire...I know I'm a PITA." The kid rolled his eyes in frustration and gave up.

Wife asks me to get her a chair with wheels. But we just bought her a "cute" Ikea chair on Craigslist for $20. The thing was new I tell ya, but some sorry soul was selling it for $40 on CL, I drive out there with $40, drive home with $20 and a chair.
So my wife's got this chair for a month now and starts complaining there's no wheels on it.
I'm a handy guy and I have a PT gig at a furniture store (8hrs a week for the discount), so I thinks to meself "I got this." No sweat, I'll just pop off the end caps from each legs, throw a nut inside the end, attach the nut to a threaded caster and there ya have it... right?
No, the end caps are solid hard plastic, not just caps. Damn Ikea.
I use the heat gun from the store, get the end caps warm enough to slide them out and notice there's a nice size hole in there from the plastic feet I just removed (see. melted off permanently). Oh sweet, I got it now! Typically when chairs and office equipment comes in to be built, they come with one or two spare parts, well this store has been around for 25 years and they never throw anything away, so we've got dozens of extra wheels and feet. Those wheels and feet are attached to a threaded insert (8x1.25mm), so they're universal if you find the right pair. I needed 5 caster/feet total).
I warm the end cap hole, pound in the threaded insert with a soft malet (the insert fit just right), stamp the insert in place with a vice, let it cool, apply some loctite I got in my truck tool box, thread on the casters. Done!
Now I have a chair that can either have stationary feet OR rolling casters. See pics below.

Latest CB story. The ABS motor/pump went out on my wifes UZJ100 last week. Dealer wanted $1045 after my 20% awesome customer discount. It's a simple electric motor. So I go home and take it apart, and spend three hours cleaning it, pulling the contacts, and seeing if I can find a replacement contact online to no avail. Anyways, it turns out that the rotor had a fried/dead spot, so it really did need replaced. But the cheap bastardism continued, as I still couldn't justify it, so I emailed cruiserparts, LLC (cruiserparts.com) to see if they happened to have one, as one wasn't listed on their website. Sure enough, they had a low mileage motor for $300 bucks. $745 saved.
I'll proudly join the CBTMA.

Oh yea I wuz already in the doge ram club for the last 11 years before trading in on my tundra. I'm hoping for a little relief. Have always had a healthy distrust of dealers and mechanic shops and avoid them at all but the most dire situations(electric or ac). Count me in.
I'm Your Huckleberry thats just my game. Once fixed my uncle's 86 toyota pickup with a miller lite can, fuse blew in the middle of BFE!

SuperCharger = Divorce ?
Well, I saved $400 by installing my own air bags, saved $100 by putting the front receiver hitch on, saved $325 by installing the Sirius Radio (which was a bugger, pulling the whole damn dash apart), and saved over $200 having my tonneau cover shipped to a US address (free shipping), and then self-installing, so that all adds up to just over $1,000.00. Now I need to subtract $350 because I was foolish enough to take my truck to the dealer for the 30,000 Mile screw you up the wazoo whatever they do, but I'm still like $700 to the good. So if that's acceptable, count me in!
edit: Also the Brake Controller. I soldered the wires because I was too cheap to pay the $25.00 for the right connections

Reason: Brake Controller

Idunno man, that $350 screw job....with double-charged oil......kind of negates all other work you have done.

Yeah, I know. I only posted it here to put the warning out to anyone who might have been doing their own / getting Jiffylube or whatever but might think it is worthwhile to go to the dealer for the "bigger" job, where they might be able to pick up stuff while it's still little. In my experience = Bad Idea
Anyway, I will leave it up to the Cheap Bastards Association -- I'm not sure I want to be part of any club that would have me as a member anyway

Just be sure to include the VAT in your membership dues, and you're in.
