Do-It-Yourself What the Heck is CBTMA?

CBTMA is...
Cheap Bastards Toyota Maintenance Association.

I am a member and the Founding Father.
Established: August 15, 2008

ARE YOU IN?
DIY is our way of life
We do all of our own work (well as much as a shade-tree can get away with)
We come up with simple solutions
We create from crap, junk, and extra materials that are laying around
We try to get away with spending as little as possible
We pass on our ideas and inventions to others
We help out other members as often as we can
And so on, and so on...you get the idea

So, be honest, are you in?

If you are, add "CBTMA Member" to your Sig line, or not, who cares.

If you don't care, who cares...I thought this would be fun since there are many of us here who fit the bill...in whole or part.

Wrench on friends...wrench on!

Hey, I'm cheap enough to get someone else to do my oil changes for free (or at least pay for them for me)!

But when it comes to anything else, if I CAN do it myself, I sure as hell will.

I would qualify for this in any respect. I'm also a member of CBBMWMA.......

Not only that, this group includes modifications and additions of aftermarket or add-on parts and NOT paying for installation. Maintenance is a used as a broad term, meaning for us "working on your Toyota yourself".

I don't really care how small of a mod it was, eg: say if someone were to jamb a Popsicle stick in the heater vent to get it to stay put...that would be CBTMA approved.

I'm a member for several reasons.

1. Cost. I can do the work cheaper
2. Quality. The work I can do will be done with more care as it is MY vehicle and I have a vested interest in making sure it is done right
3. When I do this work, I also check alll kinds of other things. I don't just rotate tires, I check brakes, suspension components, etc. Instead of just every 30k, I do it every time I do the rotations
4. Dealership hours. 9-5? WTF? I work during those hours. No, I'm not going to waste tax payer dollars and take time away to sit in a dealership and let someone work on my truck.
5. I like doing the work.

I used to be a member of the CBHMA (Honda) and CBAMA (Acura) clubs.

I used a clothespin. Does that make me an over-achiever?

FWIW, I qualified my CBTMA membership a few weeks ago with "pledge", meaning once I'm done with the freebie oil changes that the dealership gave me, I'll be doing them myself. Till then, I'm just a pledge in this frat.

I'm in... all my maintenance is done by me. and... i just dropped by 4Wheeel parts yesterday to see how much it would be to install a new ARB Sahara front bumper with winch... 400 bucks for labor... I think my wife can help me do it and then can she be an honorary member? She also mows the grass if that helps.
