I really want to get a picture of this on the way home, but I could not. I do not understand this one, maybe a bike rack. But I could not see the cost for just a bike rack. Hey maybe this is just me as I cannot rationalize a Smart Car anyways, I could by a Civic that gets better mileage and carry 5 people. That and seeing a Smart Car hit by a motorcycle doing 45, it totaled the car.
Just my opinion, lets see what you all say.

I agree totally. Having excellent fuel economy is great, but practical reality on the street means this is not the only thing to consider when selecting a vehicle. There is such thing as too small and this is epitomized with the Fortwo. With such a small wheelbase and track width, they are simply not driveable 24/7/365. Up here a few hippies own them but they all disappear at the first skiff of snow. Try changing lanes across a wind row after the plows come through and you will know the meaning of stress.
In addition, I need something to actually happen when the throttle is pressed. I am glad I have a 5.7 badge on my fender and I am happy to pay for it.

I agree. Smart Cars are just too small. They look like a door on wheels. And I think they're dangerous because a few times, I've had one behind me and didn't even know it was there! It literally disappears when it's close to the truck. And like a mosquito, it annoyingly buzzes around the truck and I wish the truck had a cow tail to shoo it away.
I see those things fly by on the 401 and it just doesn't seem possible that they are cars. Every time I see one, I look at the bed of my truck, look at the smart car, look at the bed and wonder. Hmmmm... I'm SURE it will fit!
Seriously though, they may be great on fuel economy, but I think one has to consider safety when picking a vehicle. Let's face it, there are still a lot of big vehicles on the road and I don't want to be in the smallest of them. I would be pissed at myself if I was injured in an accident due to being is such a small vehicle. Suddenly, the savings in fuel just isn't worth it.
Then there is the matter of dignity....especially for those of us who spend our lives at quarter mile dragstrips. I can't see myself owning something that uses a calendar to measure the 0-60 time.

Smart Cars have their place, and they aren't here.
Over in Europe they have a diesel engine which gives them good gas mileage. The compact size allows them to park anywhere they want, even vertical against a curb among a bunch of parallel parkers.
Here, they are not welcome IMO.
My buddy claims he backed through the windshield of one lol.
I really want to go find a place that rents Smart Fortwos and drive one into the bed of my truck. They're probably pretty close dimensionally but the wheel wells might make it a tight fit. I'd then drive aroudn through hippyville and let them know I use the Smart when my truck runs out of gas or I get a flat tire hahaa.

Hey, hey, Mr. Policeman
Bet I can drive faster than you can
Come on Tinker, let's have some fun
Go on shoot me with your radar gun
You look bored and I sure am
Catch me if you can
I love seeing people speed on the freeway in smart cars, because it reminds me of this video: YouTube - Smart Car Crash Test
Yes the vehicle can withstand a 70MPH crash that goes from 70-0, but the human body cannot. The force is so great that your organs keep flying forward and slam into your chest cavity, killing you.
I'll take my truck over that little death trap any day of the week.

Don't even mention a tow hitch, the name 'smart car' for this car is a contradiction. This car is anything but smart. As others said, I'll take my Corolla that gets 38mpg REAL WORLD driving(stop and go freeway, up to 85mph) and can seat 5 adult and is relatively safe. A smart car, I bet you drive it 80-85mph, doesn't get very good gas mileage. For the 3-4 mpg difference, I'll take the Corolla.
We've seen them around town. Now even my kids laugh, we've named them the 'not-so-smart car'.

If I want something really small, slightly dangerous, and fun to drive; with minimal ability to carry anything but two passenger capability and easy to park, I'll take my motorcycle.
I had a Diesel VW Jetta, it got 60 MPG and was actually reasonable to drive. The amount of torque on a diesel meant it wasn't bad off the line (no sports car, either) but to my mind vastly superior to the smart car. I was pleased at how well the front wheel drive Jetta did even in snow once the Michelin Pilot Alpin tires were put on. The only problem was, I need a truck as well and couldn't justify the added cost, depreciation, maintenance, insurance, etc. having two vehicles on the road plus my wife's vehicle and the motorcycle.
I agree that the Smart Car might be a good option for purely city driving, easy parking, and mileage, but where do you put your groceries, or what if you have kids: maybe they go in the trailer?

Why not a hitch? you have a car with no space to carry things. what if you go buy a new tv? those little HF trailers should be perfect for it. You see trailers on all sort of small vehicles in Europe. As long as no one tries to put a 5er on it

With properly rated tires and the addition of airbags, one could pull a 5er. Just don't tell the weight police.

With a 5th wheel, you could put the kids in the trailer, at least in some jurisdictions. Can't do that with a bumper tow, though. The problem is the hitch would have to be in the middle of the roof.
