Ok...how many of you have had this procedure done? Im going in thursday to have it done. I am one who does not like discomfort although i can stand it. Sometiems i'd rather have an intense pain and have it go away than have something semi minor that bothers me and stays for days...
So...ive googled and googled and theres tons of peeps who say they had it, with bloating and pain and throwing up, as well as waking up and trying to pull the tube out of their throat etc....
so..i come to the reliable source (TSOT haha) and ask for ya'lls real world experience?
Hopin they can finally nail down what is going on inside me...its been bothering me for almost 3 years....bout time i break down and do the tests they want...already done a barium swallow crap, x rays, ultrasound (which by the way she was nice enough to point out a kidney stone sitting there waiting to dislodge), and some other crap...now this.....
my mom n dad are watching our two sons and my wife is going to drive me home (doc said not to drive myself that i had to have a babysitter), and the plan is to take a nap and then go out for an early dinner then go back to pickup our kids....am i gonna feel like eating out?

My mother had this done, you probably won't want to eat right away because you might choke. I believe hers was for duodenum ulcer.

I have. And I will admit I was concerned about going through the procedure. However, I can honestly say it was a breeze and I wouldn't hesitate to have it done again.

I've had this done twice for a horribly inconvenient condition known as achalashia....the endosope procedure is nothing to worry about you won't remember a thing. they don't put you out but your so drugged that you aren't aware of whats going on...and you "awake" to only a mild sore throat....a little chloroseptic throat spray or a quick cough drop and your fine.
btw I feel your pain...hope whatever is bothering you gets diagnosed...I took several months and all kinds of tests for them to diagnose my achalasia...of course I did my own research and knew after three weeks I had acahalasia....yet the doctors needed their BMW or house payments and ran me thru a battery of unneccessary tests before agreeing with me.

Had this & "Bravo Pill" done last month and it was super easy with no side effects. Dealing with acid reflux induced asthma at the moment and many tests have been done to find it.
This may sound weird but is true and I started to post it before. About 2 months ago I went in for a "Motility Test" (super flexible tube in nose and down throat and into stomach) to test swallowing and a ..."24 Stomach Acid Test" (tube in nose, down throat and into stomach and attached to small hand held computer for 24 hours).
Docs & nurses (4 different people) tried for over an hour to get first motility (super flexy) tube through my nose and into stomach and it would not go. They had aborted test after 5 or 6 tries.
I looked at chart on the wall (showing a cut away diagram of nose, throat and stomach & etc.) of the room, figured where the tube was getting stuck, put gloves on, put more lidocaine on a long Q-tip, stuck it in my nose (while doc & nurse holding 3 foot long tubing) and I put it down my own throat and into my stomach to the mark on the tube. When test was over, 30 minutes later, I pulled it out. ...
Then I put the small stiff tube through my nose and down my throat and into my stomach (to the mark) for the acid test. They held the tube and I did the pushing. Docs said I was first ever to ever do it and they still joke me about it today. I told my wife (she works at the medical center) and she didn't believe me until we went together to the Gastroenterology Clinic 24 hours later to have the tube removed and turn in handheld computer.
My wife asked me why I am now typing so much now and I just told her I was tell you about doing my own tests and she just laughed. ...
What really surprised me was them allowing me to even do it, with liability and all. And I have a giant gag reflex and super nose sensitivity and the secret was a lot of lidocaine on the Q-tip.
I guess that it took them by surprise and I did it so fast on the first tube. ...
Now, what I did on myself was NOT a scope .. I had the EGD type scope (big tube on down and into stomach) & "Bravo Pill" done last month and was knocked out during those procedures and don't remember a thing. They must have really knocked me out, because I don't even remember my wife driving me home. ...
Your test will be a piece of cake. ...
PS ... I was a lot tougher as a little kid. When I was in the 6th grade, I was playing for the school marble championship.
The problem was I had developed a big wart over time (only wart in my life) on my right knee. This was the knee that I had to put on the ground in that exact same spot as the wart location.
So, I went home and pulled the big wart out (it took 2 trys) with a pair of pliers on the front steps of the house. It looked like a giant tooth with a big root with black seeds attached to it.
The wart never came back .. I never got any more warts ... and I lost the marble championship to a 5th grader. ...

If you or a relative is in the US Military ... make sure you get ALL important info. (injuries & medical treatments) documented in your SMRs.
(Service Medical Records).
ALWAYS keep a COMPLETE copy of those SMRs in a secure place that you can access.
This is super important later when a "claims issue" or etc. arises.

only had it twice along with SOSpilots motility test (that test is WAY WORSE)...btw I helped do my own insertion too on the motility....
and yes I had it done as a pre-requisite to balloon dialation....only had it done once as it created acid reflux problems that I did NOT have previously....and the one dialation treatment did NOT take...relief was fleeting and only lasted a week....further dialations will only make acid reflux worse...I'd rather deal with this current inconvenience than have acid deteriorate my esophagus or be on maintenance drugs for the reflux.

Not to high jack this thread .. but a question to PistolPete ...
I talked to docs on my ... "acid reflux induced asthma" ... and they said surgery was recommended.
The docs said they can go into esophagus and fix the 2 valves by tying them partially closed since they don't work now.
I need to talk to surgeon in next 2 weeks to check on exact operation and complications.
Have you ever had this done or know anyone who has had this done ??
Now, the stomach acid (without acid meds) is being aspirated into airways and into lungs and causing asthma and wheeeeezzzing like crazy ... without steroids and acid reflux drugs.
I am in super health except for this acid reflux stuff that just started overnight. ... ... Maybe heavy lifting on a full stomach started this valve problem ??
