You know if you are not going to breed or show the dog, I'd save the money and not register the dog. I didn't bother with mine. Why pay money to some organization that isn't going to do anything for you? Now if you want to breed the dog and it has show qualities, that is different.

    Bragging rights.

And, my collie is being trained as a therapy dog. In order to do that, he must first pass a test, and before he can take the test, he has to complete the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification.

It's all part of the process. ALL of their dogs and puppies get registered and documented.

My last dog was a Chessie. I inherited her from a breeder who had, "Too many dogs". The dog was therapy dog trained, obedience trained, and hunt trained. She was unbelievable. I took her to the SEWE, Southeastern Wildlife Exposition | Charleston, SC | February 17-19, 2012, one year and had her performing during an intermission break. She attracted a pretty good size crowd. I had to have her euthanized last year due to her pain & loss of mobility.I need help naming a puppy-girl-dog-1-005.jpg That pic is, "Sit! Stay! You can tell by her ears she is waiting for the next command.

I guess you call it just part of the purchase price. But it is just part of the scam. Breeders just wanting to be able to get more money. My dog is the best but not show quality. My breeder wanted to know all about my dog up until I said I never paid to register a dog that wasn't going to compete.
AKC promotes inbreeding which I am against.

I don't get bragging rights. It's not like you sired the pup. All you did was buy it. You can only really brag about what you trained it to do.

I interpreted SD's comment as bragging about the dog's abilities not bragging about himself. But please don't take that as a criticism of you. I always appreciate your comments.

I (and the breeder I am working with) are also against inbreeding and over breeding. That is why he has so many breeding dogs and why he goes "outside" to use breeding dogs from other places. He needs to know what lines his dogs (and others that he uses) are from and the AKC registry helps track that. As far as bragging rights go, I will have plenty of reasons to brag when we go hunting together and she out performs all of the other dogs hunting with us

Yes, AKC and all that but not from a puppy mill or fancy breeder.

I used to shoot for the California Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club (shooting live birds for retriever trials) and my Lab could easily be trained to perform like the pros. Not bragging (well, maybe a little) but the Club wanted shooters that never missed a bird. Nothing worse then a high intensity competition where the dog had to watch the bird fly away.

Sam is absolutely the smartest, easiest to train, and most natural hunting dog of my dozen or so Labs over the last 35 years. But then, isn't that the case with everyone's dog.

It is a joy just to watch him work a field or ditch. He lives to hunt. Although young, he has figured out that we hunt as a team so checks back often to make sure he is in gun range. If I stop walking he immediately returns to heel.

Last season he spotted a runner pheasant about 50 yards out. He looked at me and then stared down the pheasant until it disappeared into a ditch. Every other dog I've hunted with would have taken off like a streak and could not be stopped. The bird would have been lost.

At my age he will be my last dog. It is good since if he were my first then all the others would have been a disappointment. Might as well go out on top.

Enough of my ramblings. This is your topic. Hopefully you'll experience the delight of an outstanding hunting dog.

(My older black Labs were not too keen on him at first. Now they spoil him terribly.)

GWD, never apologize for bragging or rambling on about a member of your family .

I’m planning on having a LOT to brag about also. I will be spending a LOT of timing working with her and training her. In fact. everytime I take her out to “do her business”, I will spend 10-15 minutes working on her pointing and/or retrieving techniques.

You are 100% correct in saying that a Dog and a Hunter are a TEAM. I’m glad to hear that Sam understands that so well. It can be a chore when they don’t. I have a ball when I hunt with my Brother and his Yellow (Molly). Molly’s brother, Omar, on the other hand is a real nightmare. He can smell a Pheasant like no other dog I know, but he just won’t listen. He is constantly taking off and flushing birds 100+ yards away. Having to spend the day listening to this guy’s constant screaming at Omar is no picnic either.

I know how you feel. We had a Golden ( Blaze) for 15 years. She was the most well-mannered and smartest dog I have ever had or have ever been around. Her loss was devastating to my Son and I. We planned on not having dogs any more. We didn’t feel that ANY other dog would be able to live up to Blaze. It wouldn’t be right to bring another dog into our family knowing it would be a disappointment. This is one reason that I am sooooo excited about Sky. She will be a totally different world. There will be a world of difference between a Golden and a Pointing Lab. There will really be no way to compare them.

As soon as I know that the litter has arrived and what I am looking for is in that litter I will start to get my home ready for her. I plan on getting a 48X30X32 crate for her with a huge, comfy mattress. This way she is not too cramped and will be relatively comfortable while we work through the potty/chewing stage. Then starts the toys and training tools. I’ll probably spend as much on her as I have modding my Tundra. LOL Once the potty/chewing stage is over, she will have free run of the house.

Anxiously awaiting pics. Need to post updates as they occur. My Chessie was seven years old when I inherited her. The wife & I were through with raising a new pup. So I guess she was our last dog. I am humbled you let me share a bit in naming your dog and I will think of her each time I gaze upon her star. Dogs are very special animals. I cherish the time spent with each and every one of mine. The first was a chow/terrier mix given to my parents. for me, by neighbors at my birth. Lady lived 17 years.

I thought I was done with puppies also. At 61 this is a heck of a time to start over. I love dogs soooo much and want a Pointing Lab soooo bad, I'm willing to go through it. Older Pointing Labs cost way too much for me to be able to afford, so I really have no choice. Once she is house broken and the chewing stops, I'll be home free. LOL .

I appreciated your write up and Phil loved the whole concept - Thank
    you..........

I will be updating when she is born and when she gets here. I will try to post pics as she grows and develops.
