Got this message today from a friend and it is not a bad plan to make gas cheaper.
It really could work. No BS involved.
Please send it to your loved ones and anyone at the office.

Subject: Fw: High gas prices
MAYBE THIS GUY'S GOT SOMETHING.
Dear friends & family,
I hear we are going to hit close to a $1.42 a Litre by the summer.
Want gasoline prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action.
Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the “don't buy gas on a certain day” campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy gas.
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $.80 a litre is super cheap. Me too! It is currently .78 to .89 depending on what day it is, for regular unleaded gas in Montreal, Qc. We all know that we're being screwed by the oil companies. Does everyone remember how they drove up the prices way past a dollar and got the gas prices to where they wanted them, claiming there was a shortage of oil. Well, there isn't any shortage now, and the oil is more abundant than it was 35 years ago when the price of a litre of gas was 29 cents!!!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre of gas is CHEAP at $0.78-$0.85, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace .not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we cant just stop buying gas.
But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here’s the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), PETRO CANADA, SHELL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of PETRO CANADA and SHELL buyers. Its really simple to do!!
Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to at least thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people.
That's all (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people... Well, lets face it, you just aren't a Mathematician. But I am. so trust me on this one.)
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Ill bet you I didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE
$0.64 OR LESS RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK!!!!!!!
PLEASE take a few minutes and pass this on to everyone you know!! If you can't e-mail it to at least ten people, please print out a bunch of copies and hand it out to your family and friends!!
Hey, I'm not from canada but I have a little bit of information that might throw a wrench in your plans. I have done service work for several gas stations and I have done some for small mom and pop ones and a lot of those guys buy their gas from Shell even though nothing on the building says anything about Shell. Kinda interesting.

yeah...i even remember an old thread about petrol sources from back in the day, something about they all come from the same place, it's like debeers and diamonds.
making a point of intelligently bothering your elected representatives will help too...i also recently read a comment about gas prices being at an all-time high, and oil companies turning record profits. coincidence...or something more?
I saw a version of this for the states that listed Mobil as the target.
Oil prices are high, but we're paying more now at the pump than the adjusted prices back in the 70's. I always found it to be fascinating that gas prices at the pump would always increase immediately on any issue related to oil availability or crude price increase, but once the issue had passed, they never seemed to drop as far or as fast as it rose...:b

This one's a hoax...my Mom falls for this every few years. If you REALLY want to affect gas prices, write your local rep and tell them to do away with MTBE and additive complexes that drive up the coist of gas every summer. The reason gas prices skyrocket every year is because there are something like 14-16 different mixtures of gas in the US that are all regulated at the state level. Producers go crazy trying to keep up with all the regulations and logistics of shipping the right gas to the right states in time...Funny thing, all those crazy liberals (and the French) though that the US was attacking Iraq for cheap oil---if only it were true-eh? Thank god for environmental protection (sic)
...it's like saying "i'm gonna hold my breath til i get a lollipop!"
ok kid, go right on ahead...
unfortunately, last i heard, a lotta the small mom & pop gas stations make their money from conveniences, not gas, ie these sorts of things only hurt them. best way to lower your gas cost is carpool when possible, and only drive when necessary.
There are really only two ways to get lower fuel prices...use less, and help site some new refineries. Nobody wants to drive less, the less developed world has a huge rate of increasing consumption, especially China, and nobody wants a new refinery in their city, county, whatever.
Actually, gasoline prices are just about where they've always been after you adjust for inflation.
That bogus chain letter about boycotting one or two major oil companies comes around every once in a while. It won't work because the companies buy, sell, and trade product with each other all the time. If you boycott Shell, you'll buy from Chevron or some else. They don't have enough product, so they'll buy whoever has it available, in this case, Shell. The only folks that get hurt are the small business people that own the independent Shell stations and the workers at all the stations who just want their paycheck.
