I have a single-car garage, 2 cars, so one car always has to be parked in the driveway. Whenever we go somewhere at night and return, the next morning we will find cat prints all over the car. I've chased off the neighbor's cat a few times until I wrote them a note stating that I would press charges if I ever find any scratches. Since then, they've kept their cat indoors. Just a few days ago, the alarm went off in the middle of the night and cat prints were all over the car again, there's other cats in the neighborhood. This was right after I had washed too. It really pi$$es me off that it is legal for cat owners to allow their "pets" to roam freely, crap wherever they want, and vandalize other people's property. If dogs need to be on leash in public, then so do cats. Anyone have this same problem or know how to deal with it, nothing illegal please...not worth it.
It would be nice to run a current of electricity thru the vehicle overnight... keeps the critters AND the criminals away from your ride! Sorry I can't be of more help - we have a small cat problem, but they need to worry about my Labrador...

Who cares about hurting them, I say open up on them with one of the new pellet guns shooting about 1250fps. I'd rather hurt them than them hurt my truck.
kill it with a air gun, pellet to the head or....
video tape the cat on your vehicle and then take them to small claims court and have you vehicle painted on them.
i was rasied to respect others property, so if you warned them then i'd personally just kill the cat.
if you dont want to shoot it then leave a small bowl of antifreeze under it and that usually does the trickl also without so much guilt.

Two problems with a pellet gun...One, if you miss you risk doing a hell of a lot more damage than the cat to either your truck, or the neighbor's window or something. Two, it's generally illegal to shoot any critters with a pellet gun unless you're in a wilderness zone, regardless of whether or not it's on your property. Aside from the fact that it's fairly cruel as well...
They have what are called "scat mats" though they're kinda pricey. Essentailly a low voltage mat you can lay on stuff, and the offending critter gets a mild, non-damaging shock. Enough for a deterrent, not enough to harm. Usually around $50 or so. Some can be run off of cigarette lighters, 9 volt batteries, or standard household current.
I used to have the same issue. Never got a scratch, but it was annoying to find paw prints all over. Hehe, I do remember a funny one though: Did a real thorough wax and Rain-X'ed the windows. Next day instead of paw prints, there were skid marks.

Unless of course you plan to press charges against the Supreme Being the next time a bird craps on your vehicle.
Besides, how are you going to feel when you miss the cat with your pellet gun and break a side window.
Use a 20 gauge--hard to miss. Its tempting. I dont want to hurt anyones pet. but when you cant leave your garage or shop open because they pee all over everything (including clean laundry). Owners should have some responsiblity towards their pets. Our area is over run with cats. Out of town in the country. We should have a right to protect our property. Takes about a week to get rid of the cat pee smell. I dont have a cat (or a dog) because I dont want to put up with these kind of problem. I shouldnt have to put up with other peoples animals---Buzz

For the most part, a car cover, "is" a good idea, or should I say, a starting point at least, although having the added aggrevation of putting it on and taking it off every day, would certainly get old... QUICK, IMHO. With a car cover, my 1st and foremost concern would be, the cat [literally] "kneeding" on the cover, preparing itself a spot to lay on , effectively rendering the cover "useless", by tearing to shreds!!! Not to mention, that the cat's claws, would certainly be in use, possibly causing some REAL paint damage!!
I'd have to agree with (wylcat). The pellet gun, sounds like your best option. I recommend that you look for a pellet gun, which you can "pump-up". The more you pump it up, the faster the velocity of the pellet/bb, that way, you can control the amount of velocity of the pellet/bb and be... somewhat.. humane about it. Still though, you definately need make it fast enough, to make the cat learn a VERY QUICK lesson. This approach "does" work. I'm sure you've heard the old saying... "once bitten, twice shy". You don't "necessarily" have to shoot at the cat, while it's on your truck. If it were me, all I'd wait for, is the chance just to "see" the darn thing, on my side of the property line! Needless to say, that's when... I'd fire its little a$$ up!
Just my .02 worth...

It's strange that here in Twin Cities Minnesota (other than pet owners are more responsible) with not many back yard fences and very few pets are running loose. In the seven years I've been back here I've had only two dogs come around and owners came looking for them within 30 minutes and thanked me for holding them. You very seldom see cat or dog road kill on the roads. Raccoons, deer and a few squirrels is about it.
When we lived in the SFV in Ca I was always seeing cats and dogs loose. All of my neighbors understood when their pets were home they were theirs and when they were on my property they belonged to me. I trapped quite a few cats in a havaheart trap and hauled them to the hillsides for coyote food to get rid of them. I didn't make much of a dent but I sure got a lot of satisfaction.
I did try a time clock controlled 35,000 secondary voltage neon sign transformer connected to a pair of serpentine wires siliconed to a two foot x 1/2 inch piece of plastic sheet once. The voltage was so hot that dust on it in combo with night time dew would short it out and blow it's fuse so I had to go back to more conventional methods.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to siphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
If your engine doesn't consume ANY oil it will seize???
Some people should not be allowed access to tools without books!!!
My old neighbor would have a broad rubber tip on an arrow, flat tip about the diameter of a quarter, and shot at dogs and cats on his property. It seemed to do the trick for him.
