Did some 0-60 runs today with my 05 AC SR5 2WD.
Used a calibrated stop watch and did rolling starts to avoid wheel spin(rolling at the speed of walking) to 60mph.Did 3 runs 6.76, 6.90, and 6.90.
Ran 87 octane, near sea level and 2degrees celcius. Was very happy with the times.Noticed the 5speed shifted to 3rd @about 56mph which doesnt help the time.Never the less I was impressed.
I will do some more runs when I fill up with 94 octane to see how much of a difference that will make.

You can spin your tires from a stop? Man, I sure wish I could. Those are some very solid times though. The 05's sure are fast.
You sould get it out to the strip and run some 1/4 mile times to see what it will do. I would like to see that.

spinning isnt always bad - just keep it in check, not to much.
it builds momentum in your rolling parts (wheels/tires) and that transfers to tq. it also heats the tires to give better traction.
also the tq. converter loaded as in (sitting holding the brake and holding the engine at about 2200 rpm) leads to quicker times because of the stored energy - try it and id bet your times will go down.
anyone who dosnt know this already can confirm this by looking at any motor trend mag or hot rod and see that cars tested from stop launched correctly give much better 0-60 times than rolling starts with the same car.

Wow thats a pretty good time. I wonder how the '05 Tundra stacks up against the Titan.
Under 7 seconds is really good. Last time I timed my 04 SR5 Tundra Double Cab I was getting 8 seconds flat pretty much every time. I wish I could have gotten the 05. But don't get me wrong, I still love my truck!
Actually, I have a hard time beleiving it is under 7 seconds. That would make it quicker than a Nissan Titan or a Dodge Hemi. I wish someone would go down to their local dragstrip and see what the 05's will do in the 1/4.

Hold that thought-- as soon as a local strip opens, I'm there. I figure I have about the lightest version of an '05 Tundra out there and it's killing me not having some hard numbers too!
I will say this: my Tundra feels faster than the crew cab, 2WD Titan that I test drove which was, admittedly, still green.

When the DC came out in 03 I think, the Dodge Hemi also came out.GM had the 300hp 5.3 and Ford had the 5.4 torquer.
The auto mags were testing nothing but Tundra DC and they kept labelling the Tundra "UNDERPOWERED'' compared to the domestics.
This prompted Toyota officials to give their engineers a mandate for the 05 Tundra. One word ACCELERATION
So the 05 has 5speed tranny(biggest effect) and more power out of the 4.7 by adding vvt-i.
All this combined makes my 05 AC 2WD so fast. eg 0-60 in 6.9. I love it.

Curb weight would also be a factor.
From the Tundra 05 brochure (Canadian )
Curb Weight: 2005 tundra sr5 doublecab 4x4 4980 lbs.
2005 tundra sr5 accesscab 4x2 4298 lbs
The magazines always seem to test the Doublecab 4x4 which weighs 682 lbs more than the 4x2 Accesscab. thats 17.6 lbs/hp vs. 15.2 lbs/hp . That is quite a difference. We don't get a v8 regular cab here in Canada. Now that must really fly.
ESTA Safety Park will open on April 10 (we've got a looong winter huh mandzach?) and I'll be there! I was hoping to run my brother's '68 442 but in the name of science, the Tundra it is.
I'm guessing mid-high 15s but who knows. The vvti version of the 4.7 does pull hard through 90 mph though, I can attest to that...

I got a 6.9 using a G-Tech with a 05 AC 4wd and that was spinning the tire some also.(test drive) The 05 Tundra is pretty quick and will probably run in the low 15 sec range in the 1/4 mile.
I'm completely aware of the 40 hp gain and the new transmission. I'm curious to see what Mr. Dynamic's Tundra runs because it is the lightest combination and should be the fastest. If these sub 0-60 times are accurate, it should be able to run low 15's or high 14's. I just don't trust Gtechs or hand-held stopwatches. They seem to be always off by a half-second or more by my experience and it always seems to be on the fast side. I'm just a little skeptical but I'm really hoping that a '05Tundra does run faster than a Hemi or Titan!!
