This is a discussion thread titled "Toyota Announces Hybrid Info (Including Tundra!)", within the Off-Topic forum, part of the General Forums category.
Toyota hopes to revolutionize auto industry with its hybrid technology April 1, 2005 - Tokyo - Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC).
The Toyota Prius made hybrid technology cool, but now Toyota has its sights set on bigger things. Instead of offering only the Prius, it is hoping to change the entire auto industry by making the hybrid the standard truck. With the addition of the new 2007 Tundra Hybrid and the new Hylander Hybrid SUV to its product lines, Toyota is attempting to put hybrid cars and trucks into the mainstream with a combination of style, power and good looks. Big gas-guzzling V8’s and diesels are out - all the way out and hybrids are now in Toyota's sights.
Of course, Toyota's not the only company with a hybrid on the market. Honda has the Civic Hybrid, Accord Hybrid, and Insight. Nissan licensed Toyota's technology for the forthcoming Altima Hybrid. Ford introduced the Escape Hybrid SUV and Chevrolet has the Silverado Hybrid pickup. But Toyota has sold more hybrids than all other automakers combined, and it's the only manufacturer fully embracing the technology's long-term prospects. Other automakers fear that hybrids are too expensive or too complex to augur real change - not the digital camera that eventually revolutionized that market, to use Bastien's analogy, but rather a niche product like the old-fashioned Polaroid - and that hybrid technology will be supplanted by hydrogen-powered fuel cells.
Which means that if there's going to be a hybrid in every garage come 2020, Toyota must lead the way.

They better hope that they do better and improve on the delivery Vs the way it has been with the Prius's to date.
1) Normal 8 month wait, till just this year
2) Dealer price gouging
3) Improved highway performance for a bigger vehicle
4) An affordable price

Actually your write is probably more true than you realize. When gas hits $4 -$5 a gallon at some point in the not to distant future, hybrids are gonna sound mighty good to most of us.

4-5 in the near future? This is a bit exaggerated guess, I think. I do agree that if gas prices rise to much they will be a hig demand for them.
