I know this has been discussed before so I am sorry if I offend some people. But I am down to the 4x2, Tundra regular cab v8 and the Prerunner Access Cab, v6 Auto with the TRD Sport Pkg #2. I have test drove both. Well the tacoma did not have the TRD Sport pkg but is was a v6, auto Prerunner. I really like the feel of the V8 and the price will be higher on the Tacoma. The Prerunner looks better inside and out. But in both Prerunner's I tested I think at around 60mph there is a shake in the steering. In a couple of weeks the dealer will have a sport Prerunner for me to test drive. Also the Tundra feels faster. Any input would be apreciated.
Thank you
Fred

Hey Fred,
I would go ahead and go with Tundra V8!!!!! Trust me..
Tacoma V6 Recommends Premium grade fuel.... Tundra V8 Recommends only Regular Unleaded Grade....
But once again its up to you.....
Is thisa true about the regular unl.eaded fuel recommended for the 05 Tundra. My book says premium. Can I run regular in it?? Thanks for your reply
I have the 05 AC 4WD. Page 342 of the owners manual states the following re: OCTANE RATING
1GR-FR engine (V6...also same engine as in the Taco): Select Octane Rating 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher. For improved vehicle performance, the use of premium unleaded gasonline with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher is recommended.
2UZ-FE engine (V8): Select Octane Rating 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher.
Go With The Tundra For Sure.. It May Or May Not Be Faster, But The Torque Is The Difference. To Me It Would Be A No Brainer Especially If The Tacoma Is More Expensive....

I am favoring the Tundra because it has a $2500 rebate. I just wish they had them locally with the LSD option. When I Test drove them I found it hard for me to not spin the rear tires. You are right muggsyman it was all that Torque. I currently drive 4 cylinder cars. I was not use to Torque.

Put some decent tires on that Tundra if you do buy it and the spinning tires will no longer be a problem...the stock tires are terrible. I had the same problem with burning rubber every time I tried to get into traffic quickly and I am used to powerful engines...some much more powerful than the I-Force. My last truck was Dodge with the Cummins. Since I recently got good tires the spin when you don't want them to problem is gone. My new tires are harder to spin on a wet road than the stock tires were on a dry road and they handle better.
I was in the same predicament a couple months back.I was going to have the dealer order me the TRD sport #2 and was willing to wait the 2 weeks before it came. While I was waiting for the paper work to get filled out for the order I took my Tundra DC for a ride .Needless to say It is what I went home with.In my opinion I would do it all over again.
I simply love this truck!

I'd go with the Tundra. I love everything about this truck. Sure, the gas milage with the V8 isn't as good, but that much of a rebate will buy a lot of gasoline! I suppose that it does depend upon what you're planning on doing with the truck, but if you have any mind at all in regard to towing or hauling (in regard to both what you have behind or in the bed, or in regard to a great engine), the Tundra is the best bet.
if you ask me, the tacoma is overpriced. they cost pretty much the same as a similar spec'ed tundra, yet you get more truck and factory rebates with the tundra. sure the tacoma is a nice truck, as it does drive very good, but V6's in trucks of any size generally dont get substantially better gas mileage. so i see no advantage to the taco.
tundra IMO = alot more truck for your dollar

The current deal I have on the Tundra Regular cab 2 door ($20500) is rebate of $2500 and the Internet Salesman offered another $1000 off the price of the Truck. The Tacoma they came down $700 from the sticker price. It is like $25,000 for the Tacoma with the Sport Package. I may get a better price when they know I am ready to sign.
I was in the same situation as you back in January. I went to specifically look at Tacomas. I drove a 04 and an 05. I couldn't see spending $31,000 on the 05 Tacoma that I test drove and it was obvious the dealer wasn't going to do me any favors on price. On my way off the lot I glanced at the sticker on a Tundra. It cost less and there was 1 mpg difference in fuel economy. hmmm. I ended up buying an 03 Tundra limited a guy had just traded in on a new Tundra. My wife in I test drove the truck and immediately knew we were going to buy it. I haven't regretted it.
My opinion: If you do buy a Tacoma I would not buy a "Prerunner". Resale value around here is terrible on the Prerunners, you can't hardly give them away. I had to have 4 wheel drive and I was looking at used trucks. There was 1 4x4 for every 10 prerunners, and the prices reflected that fact.
Back when I was looking at a vehicle, in 2003, it was between the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab and the Tundra Access Cab. I liked the Double Cab (back then) because it had room for four, and had a useable bed. I test drove both of them, and settled on the Tundra for a couple of big reasons.
One of the reasons was the V8 in the Tundra. The Tacoma's V6 was no slouch, but didn't have the torque or power the V8 did. I "accidentally" squealed the tires heading out of the dealership on my first test drive. The Tacoma also, suprisingly, didn't turn as quick and in some cases as easily as the Tundra.
I also like the Tundra because it had a larger bed, which I've had filled up many times now. I wish Toyota offered an Access Cab with a long bed, because it would be nice.

Was in same position - actually planning on getting a Tacoma. BUT with rebate got a TRD Access Cab 4x4 Tundra for under $26,400 ..... V8 and a six foot bed and the access cab has plenty room for occasional passenger in back ...
Liked the Tacoma but:
1. Seat was too high and no height adjustment so didn't have such great frontal visibility
2. HATED the composite bed - couldn't put on TracRac or other rack to haul my kayaks
3. The Taco longbed was very RARE and very expensive ... (29-30K)
4. V8 in Tundra is really a great engine - really moves out ..
5. Tundra was equipped just right - tow package, fogs, LSD, 6 CD changer, heated outside mirrors ...
About a month out - I'm REALLY happy with the decision ... no probs and it rides like a dream. Got Line-x in bed and just toss in the bikes or boats and go ...
Eventually going to add a sunroof but other than that the Truck's just about perfect for what I need ...

Wow- that's news to me - Before my current 4wd Tacoma-
I bought a used Prerunner, drove it for 2.5 years and sold it for $250 less than what I paid for it (after adding 30K miles.)
It really depend where you are located though- In Houston TX- 4wd is not in as high demand
