About this time every year for most kids, it's back to school time. Now this time is different for me b/c, I am going to college. Not a big one just a small comm. college. I have already been to 4 days of school. I am getting totally bummed and depressed at nights knowing that I have to go to school the next day. The only thing that keeps me from going crazy is that my classes are only from 9:00-11:50 everyday, but I still cant shake the feeling.
Any suggestions?
Brandon

A little help for us college guys would be much appreciated. I know how you feel brandon as I have gone back to school myself. Unlike you I have to go from 7:00-12:45 but two days a week. Which means I have to leave my house about 40 minutes before class to make that 25 mile trip to the state university. I felt like summer just started now already back in school .

Study Bro, Once you start rolling the dough, those days at college will all be forgotten.
Brandon, what you are feeling is pretty normal for the first year of college. This is a major transition for you, like a new chapter in a book. Many kids don't take high school seriously, they just know that they have to finish and are expected to finish high school. It's a lot of fun and games and you can be irresponsible and manage to squeak by anyway. You're still a "kid" in high school. College demands a new level of responsibility where one has to be accountable or fail.
Some of the responses you have received, though seemingly not very helpful, are actually very real. If you don't succeed at college or some kind of professional training you'll most likely end up doing some meaningless blue collar job that barely pays the rent. Think about it. At age 18 or 19 you will have another 50 years in the workforce. How many hamburgers can you flip in 50 years?
You have to get a better attitude if you're going to succeed. Change the way you think about school. Instead of telling yourself you're dreading it, tell yourself that this is your ticket to success. Do you want to flip hamburgers or drive a delivery truck & hope you have a couple of bucks left at the end of the week so you can take date to the movies and a hamberger afterwards? College means you can take your date to a concert and eat steak and lobster afterwards. You get the idea. Remind yourself of all the good reasons for making the committment to go to class and study.
Four years of college is nothing when you consider the remaining 46 years in the workforce. It's all about attitude. Get involved in your college. Take advantage of everything it has to offer. The more you get involved the stronger your committment will become.
Up until now your school system and your parents have mapped out everything for you. Now it's up to you. Pass or fail, it's all up to you. Welcome to the adult world. It's not easy being an adult. It's not easy being an adult making minimum wage. When I was your age I had the same attitude. I was depressed. However, I knew that my only way out was to finish college because if I didn't I'd be driving old beaters and living in ghetto apartments for the rest of my life. If that doesn't motivate you, what will?
There is a lot of power in positive thinking. Do more of it...every day....every minute....every time a negative thought pops into your head. If you practice this you'll get over the hump. Keep telling yourself you dread school and you will succeed in only one thing...FAILURE. Remind yourself of all the positive reasons for college and you'll succeed.
I suggest you get out a notebook and draw a line down the middle of the page. On one side write down all the negatives. On the other side all the positives. See what you come up with. Brandon, don't choose to be a failure. You have the tools to succeed so use them to your advantage. You can do this. You deserve it so make it happen.

Today was my 2nd day of my freshman year at Ole Miss. The depression isn't a issue for me, but boredom is killer. I am only taking 14 hours of class a week, so I have a lot of down time. You can only stare at the inside of your dorm room for so long.

I'm sure they are plenty of hot girls roaming around campus. Maybe a girlfriend can motivate you or each other to get your life going...

Next up: ?
Brandon1, I too go to a nearby community college here. It will be my 3rd year there this fall and I am just taking things slow, at a pace where I can easily achieve a good gpa and not overload myself with too many classes (I'm taking 4 classes/semester). Do you live on campus or at home? I'm still living at home here (my college doesn't have a campus and its too damn expensive for an apartment here) and I like living at home mainly because all my stuff is here. Yea I was bummed out the first year, never really liked going to classes period and you'll probably feel the same for a while, but once you meet new people, make friends, etc, it will be enjoyable, something to look forward to. I have to admit though, most of the classes I have taken, I have enjoyed them because of the teachers because for once, they actually have made the subject interesting. Once you make plans and goals for yourself, you will start to like it. Another thing that also passed my time was that I still had 2 of my best friends still around, so we hungout everyday and still had fun whether if we just stayed at someones house and watched tv or went out at nights. I still don't like going to school but its something I need to do if I want to get ahead in life. Or if I'm real lucky someday, I'll hit the powerball.
Oh yea, and a common thread here seems to be women, must find some women...
Thanks for all the great replies. Helps me feel a little better. Thats where I have to go in about an hour. The school is fine(a little far away to drive), and living at home is fine, but I know nobody there. I know it wont be long before I will, but right now it sucks. Dont guess I have a choice, I mean if I want that Ferrari, I will need to get a job that requires some type of school.
Thanks guys
