After a few year's with the May tag I decided to Dump it too many problem's with my Unit and May tags track record on repairs is totally out of the picture now.. I've used May-tags washers for a long time and My parent used to like them too but Todays Newest generation of washers from them flat out Sucks . The guy who picked up the old unit and replaced it to the New whirlpool front loaded used to work for sears and Informed Me Many people are not happy with the new May-tags and replacing them out with other makes such as myself. I know my parents have a new washer similar like mine a mo ago but I was wanting to know everyone opinions on the Front washers and the pro's and con's. Are your clothes are much cleaner vs the convention system?..
I bought a front loading washer about 6 months ago, Kenmore, and it uses alot less water and energy than top-loading washers. Mine recommends using high efficiency soap with it(which costs twice as much) but is supposed to use less, who knows. I dont know if I can tell a difference in the cleaning value but it is gentler on them. I wear the same clothes a lot and wash them in between wearing them, I have noticed that they are not wearing out as much as before with the top-loading washer. Overall I am pleased.
P.S. The Maytag man is so lazy, he keeps the phone unpluged so that he doesnt have to deal with all the repair calls.
I have the exact same washer as yours, except in gray. Works great, we havent had any problems with it. Sometimes it sounds like a train because it gets off balance, but I guess thats how any washer is, lol. Make sure you wipe off the rubber seal every now and then with a shirt or something (when loading to clean them ) or it will get mildew on it.
We have the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer, same as your washer. I recommend them highly.
We had a refrigerator controller repaired recently, at which time the repairman praised the Duet highly except for two things:
ALWAYS use "high efficiency" detergent. ALWAYS. All other detergents don't rinse cleanly and will eventually clog the plumbing, the repairs of which are quite expensive. We use "Tide HE" and find that it works quite well. He stated that's what he used and recommended and that it worked with no problems. The higher cost is offset by the fact that very little is required per load.
Don't slam the doors of either the washer or dryer. He stated that they open and close easily, but if you break something by repeatedly slamming it closed, it takes over three hours labor to repair because so much has to be taken apart to get to it.
Incidentally, Whirlpool makes a base for the washer and dryer that lifts them up about a foot and provides a drawer under each one. We finally gave up and got both, the advantage being that we don't have to bend over to load or unload either machine. They are expensive but stout, at about $150 each, but often Lowes will offer a set at no additional cost with purchase of the washer and dryer.
I have an older Maytag Neptune, it was one of the first models they made I think. I don't really like it at all, it seems to take forever to wash a load, at least an hour and it doesn't do as good a job at cleaning in my opinion. Like another poster said it seems to be a little gentler on clothes. It sounds like a jet engine on spin cycle, seriously, I find that kinda neat but whatever.
I still have our old washer hooked up in the basement so any heavy duty or fast washing I need done I use that.
I got the largest LG front loader almost 3 yrs ago when we bought our house. It was a demo model, so it was heavily discounted. Very cool with a lot of settings etc with build in water heater. I love gadgets! We never has any problem. Always use the HE soap. It spins very fast at the end of cycle so your clothes came out almost dry. It uses very little water, and I guess it helps since our water bill is very small, like less than $20/months.
This is first house, and our first washer, so I have no comparison with other model, except the top loader at the apt complex was really hard on clothes and manage to rip some of my clothes. Not a fair comparison though...
I live in an apartment that came with a top loading machine, and after having a front loader at home, I don't like the top loader at all. The clothes come out of a top loader soaking wet compared to the front loader. In my opinion, it should be against the law to manufacture top loaders, because they waste so much water, and leave the clothes wet, which increases drying time. You will like the Whirlpool Duet, it is a great machine.
