Normally the only gun at these sheep-shoots is the one the criminal has.Glad to see there was a GOOD GUN at the scene this time! You don't have to be an off duty lawman to "off" garbage like this but you gotta be armed.
Just another example why we need to continue to fight for our rights to bear arms... By the time LE shows up the situation will be all over, including the lives of innocent people.
Speaking of which, if we do have to wait for LE to take care of the situation everytime we'll just have another LA bank heist on our hands. I imagine most departments have improved their arsenal, and the training as well but I think most areas lack or are limited in their response teams. If something like that were to happen here in town... the cops would be outgunned. They'd probably have to borrow some weapons from the NG armory, or call on some local gun nuts to help. Gun shops? Yeah, I guess the closest shop, across the border in NH, has a few AR's and maybe some 308's and some other hunting calibers.

Up until Columbine, the standard procedure for active shooters was for the officers first on scene to set up a perimeter and wait for the SWAT team to arrive. After Columbine, departments started training regular patrol officers on how to handle an active shooter. The first officers on scene now immediately go in and "neutralize the threat." However, your point of being out gunned is still an issue. I know my department allows patrol officers to use shotguns and maybe some AR-15's (or a similar rifle) after the appropriate training.
Are you referring to the shooting where the gunmen were wearing body armor? If you are, there was nothing the first officers on scene could have done about that.

I heard that the cops actually went to a gun shop to get better armed in that battle.
