Here is my post from that previous thread. My first car was a '67 Mustang w/ vinyl top, purchased second hand in 1975 for $75. That's right 75 bucks, but the engine was blown. Another $75 for an engine. Some tires, a little body work, new paint job (do you remember the ford color Lime/Gold Green) and I was in business. Was I cool? I think so; It was a pretty neat car for a sixteen year old. I kind of wish I still had that car today, but only in a convertible. But that's not the best deal I ever got. A few years later, after the Mustang was gone, I purchased a '66 Beetle for $50. It had been sitting in this lady's driveway for about a year, but I was able to get it started and air in the tires. As I was backing it out of the driveway, I stepped on the brakes and the pedal went right to the floor. I drove it home, about 50 miles, with no brakes (well only a hand brake). I was following my dad in his pick-up, he said if I had to stop in an emergency to hit him. Stepping back a minute; the lady I brought it from felt kind of bad that the car had no brakes and no gas that she followed us to the gas station down the street and filled up the tank. (about $10) After I got the car home I was cleaning it up and I found all sorts of change under the seats and floor mats. The joke in our family was that car only cost me $34.50. Here's the kicker. I put Continental radial ($75 each in 1979) tires on it and drove the car 30k+ miles over the next three years. If any of you are familiar with that vintage Bug, will know that was before they got heavy with all the safety and emissions stuff. That car was so light the tires barely wore. The guy I eventually sold the car to thought the tires were brand new. I told him how old they were, but he didn't believe me. Sold it for $600. Wish I could find a couple more deals like those.

White '76 Honda Civic Hatchback with a Kraco EQ/Amp hooked up to my house speakers in the very back. I cranked up U2 and I was very cool until I blew the engine up because I never realized I had to check the engine for oil. Then I got a '72 Chevelle in Pea Green. I hated that car and I wasn't very cool. Then I bought a '72 LUV that was 2" off of the ground, hardtop convertable, and the bed tilted (manually). I was back to cool status.
I had a cherried out '67 white beetle, all original everything. I thought I was pretty cool. It got totalled three months after I got it by some stupid girl in a company car, and I cried for a week. I loved that car. But it all worked out, because I love the Tundra even more.

my first car was a '65 ss327 chevelle I actually found in a barn! unfortunately I left it parked out front after getting it all cleaned up and my dad sold it! I only got to drive it once and that's only because I snuck it out (I was 15 and didn't have a permit yet!) first car I got to drive was a '69 nova with 427 and a turbo400 with a clutch, never got a speeding ticket in that car but got pulled over 14 times to check if it was legal and always a warning not to open it up! did 10.5 in the 1/4,guy I sold it to added NOS and went low 9's.dad made me sell that one when he realized how fast it really was.third car was a honda CVCC,got 4 speeding tickets the first month,go figure.
Wow, I guess alot of you had Beetles. My first car was a 1988 silver Toyota Camry which I still have. Basic model (no power windows or power locks). Automatic, A/C, and a radio were the only options on it. Bought with 154,000 miles and currently 204,400 miles. Still runs great, too. Oh yeah, I was cool! Even cooler now with the Tundra!
Everybody was cool with their first car. Remember, picking up friends and going for a joyride? First ride was a 1965 Galaxy 500XL with a stomping "289" on board (in my mind anyway). Had to work alot of hours after school to buy her. Bucket seats, auto on the floor, one heck of a cool 8 track stereo system...never mind, cancel the 8 track.

The mod list is long. Check some pics in my gallery for mod detail.
1974 AMC Gremlin, 6 Cyl. 3 Spd. it was a Levis model(anyone remember)? What a poor excuse for a car it was. Can definately understand why AMC went broke. Classic American made junk!
1959 Opal stationwagon. Totally UNcool. It had been wrecked in the front end and my dad had the body fixed but we never replaced the grill. The grill for a 1959 Opal stationwagon was hard to find in 1968. It did get me to and from school for a year until I could buy a 1967 Pontiac LeMans. TOTALLY COOL!

CBRbUrR, Looking at the picture of your Ranger, I thought that your garage was falling over, but then I noticed that the trees and power pole in the picture were leaning in the same direction.
49 Chevy turtle back ,47 Harley Knucklehead. Anyone who had a car was cool in those days.

First car was a 1972 chevelle with a 307. And yes if you had a car...stationwagon didn't matter you were cool. If you could afford gas well you were even cooler. I called my car the challenger because the motor blew up. One winter and about 150 bucks for another block I was back out on the road. My high school and college years I had 7 cars and if added up the cost of all of them it was about 2000 dollars. Yes I was cool LOL
