Talking 2000 Toyota Echo "Check Engine"

Hello,

I'm new and drive a 2000 Toyota Echo . My car has 105k miles and still running (thank goodness). My "check engine" light came on recently and I'm not sure what I should do.

I read several messages from other uses regarding certain codes but I had my car checked out today and the mechanic came up with the following codes:

P0300
P0301
P0440
P0441
P0446

Is it the end for my Echo? Has anyone ever gotten these codes? Any help is greatly appreciated.

P0300-Random Misfire
P0301-Misfire detected CYL #1
P0440-Evap Control System
P0441-Evap Control System Improper Purge Flow
P0446-Evap Control System Vent Control

The first two you should change all of the plugs and wires, don't know about the other 3. It shouldn't be too much to get it fixed, but if you don't want to I will take it off your hands: )

Hello everybody!
I thought I was alone with this Check Engine nightmare. It gets really irritating. Two weeks ago, the Check Engine light came on. Took it to dealer and they said the code was the infamous P0171 (System Fuel Too Lean (or something of the sort)). They told me I needed to get the O2 sensor changed (Bank 1 or something like that). I did it. The next day, the light came back on. I took the car to the dealer again and they reset the light and told me that if it went back on, I needed to come back for a more thorough revision. But here's the thing, I paid 300 for the sensor replacement. I'm on a budget lately and I just can't keep spending more money on this. I mean, I want my car to be on top shape but I'm not rich. The car drives fine. (My car is a Toyota Echo 2000 with 117.000 miles on it. It has been a very reliable car. I want to keep it that way). Sometimes I do experience some stalling but aparently it happens only when the car is cold, especially in the morning. I've read some posts about the MAF. I tried cleaning it with an electronic part cleaner. When I removed it, I didn't notice any extreme dirt on it. What else can I do?. After cleaning the MAF, I reset the light by disconnecting the battery but after a couple of hours, the light came back on again. I'd really appreciate some help here. I'm not really a mechanic, so if anyone has any advice, please reply in "for dummies" mode. Thanks in advace. Great site!!!!

the P0171 is a joke. I got it at just over 100,000 miles. didn't do anything for 3 years and another 100,000+ miles. eventually the light stopped coming on probably because it burnt out. now at 300,000 I've never replaced the O2 sensor or anything because of the light, still getting 40+ mpg.
