Question A/C off still works in the background?

I've notice that my ECHO 2003 consumes more fuel than expected according to the owner's manual. Now I am suspecting that the A/C even when it is turned off still works because the air coming out of the docks is freshier than the outside air. My actual city/road average consumption is about 6.6 liters/100Km.

Anybody knows what to do to desactivate the A/C without disconnecting it or blowing hot air from the motor in the car ???

Make sure the "defrost" position is not set. The a/c automatically works with it in DEFROST mode, and the a/c light will NOT be on.

most cars get worse mileage than the maroni or owners manual states.

and what the hell is 6.6 liters per 100km in miles per gallon ?
