94 Tercel Valve Adjustment

I just bought a 94 Tercel with about 120,000 miles. Runs great, passed smog, but takes about a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. How important is the valve adjustment? The last time there is a record of it being done is at 60,000 miles. Should I have this done immediately or can I wait until I hit 150,000 miles?

I've got a 91 Tercel with 187,000 miles. Uses about 1 quart between oil changes. i think that is more a function of the valve guides/seals. That's what I would check. i would think it could wait until you're doing some other maintenance. You could rebuild the head too, I haven't yet but I may. The body's starting to go but the engine's still pretty good.
