Out-of-Production Cars & VansGeneral discussion forum for out-of-production Toyota, Scion and Lexus cars, and vans.
This is a discussion thread titled "Something worn out on Celica", within the Out-of-Production Cars & Vans forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
Couldn't find the Celica section, so I thought i'd ask here since most yall know everything about cars/trucks. Alright so my dad was changing the transmission fluid on our Celica and noticed these things were worn out and torn. There is a picture below of it, my dad says I could pick something up at autozone to replace it without pulling that shock/strut whatever it is out. So how should I go about this? I don't know why he's asking me to do it... but yeah so help me out here lol.

first of all the "celica" section would be over in the out of production section...
secondly, looks like a dust boot for the strut...not sure if they are sold by themselves, i doubt it...even if they did you would have to take it apart to replace it...i'd jsut drive it till the strut needed to be replaced then drive it a little more then replace it (haha nothing like procrastination). its not going to be as bad looking when the weight of the car is back down on it, still will be torn, but in that unsprung state in the pic its gonna be spread apart alot farther. tell dad not to worry about it and go drink a beer or two.
oh and you could just take the celica to the toyota dealership and have them install a TRD exhaust and tell them they damaged this....haha just kiddin......sorry to bring that issue back up but i couldnt resist.
yeah he told me at autozone or pepboys they sell dust boots that can split open and just put it around the strut without taking it apart and i guess he says you just clamp the dust boot together? I dunno though...

Heh I actually got to go back to the dealership tomorrow to pick up some screws so I can finish putting my rear splash guards on... and maybe i'll have them look at the tailgate again. I'm actually thinking of ordering the trd intake for my tundra haha and probaly get it installed by them again. I guess I learned that sh!t happens, it's not intentional, move on. But the TRD intake will probaly be my last mod, unless i save up some money to get 6" procomp lift and wheel/tires really doubt it though.

I don't know if they did this in the first place, but see if they can just replace both the tailgate cables at once, not just one at a time (not sure if that's the way they did it, it wasn't made clear).
Let us know how the dust boots go. I'm going to Autozone too to help my buddy out with some like Dr. Shudder transmission fix. It should make his 2500 purr again.

They actually never replaced the tailgate cable after I noticed one was loose, First dealership tried to tighten the bolt which was unsuccessful and just sent me on my way, then the body shop says they noticed they were "different" and it's a manufacturer defect. then back to the dealer and manager says they aren't different and body shop will have to fix it, then body shop says after my complaint "we will fix it reguardless" then all they did was measure both of them and are the exact same length and again says take it for warranty... so lol .

? I dont know if they do, but that sounds pretty goofy...whats the since of having a dust boot (used to keep dust OUT) if its got a big cut in it...
But yeah, I would just cut it and forget it...Pretty much useless, because most struts/shocks have good seals that keep everything out...
BTW- My TUNDRA has a loose tailgate cable too, no big deal, once you put weight on it there both tight..
