So would a deal like this:

http://www.craigslist.org/eby/car/47723679.html

be good, if I can get a decent 87 rolling chassis for $500 that has the engine mostly parted out, but body/interior is in workable shape? Will the '89 ECU work as a plug in on the 87?

That is the way I am leaning right now.

BTW the '90 with salvaged title and a bunch of upgrades that I was looking at went for $2825 on ebay. It was item # 2498193381 if you want to look it up.

Thanks,
JD

If I had a place to store it, I would seriously be considering an offer like that. I would be using my supercharger money to buy it, but I'm not gonna need it anyway I suggest you let your cousin give it to you - you can use that as your daily driver and keep the miles on your truck low.

it sounds like there are some missing intercooler tubes (i bet its the one in the passenger fender), the CPS? and coil pack. you will also need a turbo. used IC pipes about $50, coil pack $50, CPS idk what that is $???, used CT-26 turbo $100-400.

the ECU goes with the wire harness so you are mostly fine there.

i wouldnt offer more than $500 for the lot, he can keep the LSD. its worth at least $100.

88 and earlier bodystyles are worth about $200-500 less retail dollars than the 89 on up. id shoot for an 89 on up chassis.

you should try to look into other sources of procuring a turbo supra that alread has a blown HG. be patient and put the word out. you should be able to score a turbo with a blown HG for under or about $1k. remember, the car only books for a few thousand dollars. you dont want to pour that much time and money into it. you need to save your money for the fcon, boost meter, bov, springs, shocks, tires, brake pads, downpipe, exhaust. etc.

almost forgot, the turbo models already have an LSD. some NA supras came from the factory with an LSD but you have to check the body code. i have rarly seen an NA with a factory LSD, and when i did, it was always a 5 speed.

mk3 supras are notorious for power steering leaks. the high pressure hose is almost always the suspect. the damn ps hoses are big $$$ over $230. if you had the hose rebiult at a hose shope, it would still cost almost $200. i sad f#ck it, i have no power steering.

2-3 grand is a little to much for me. i have an 89t with an fcon, blits bov, apex n-1, TRD ma701 suspention, a bunch of other goodies, and i dont expect to get more than $2k.

you can see a pic of the back of my supra in my gallery, page4.

That's good thinking about saving money for upgrades and such. I would def. prefer '89 and up, but I'll have to wait and see. There was a complete '87 listed that had a blown HG (only $250 asking) but it was an '87 with no turbo... I have no idea what condition it's in.

The link I posted for the '89 engine & drivetrain with trans included the turbo, so that was good. I think I might be able to talk him down, esp if I have a good drivetrain to work with already. I can't imagine people are knocking down his door for his offer.

funny, my 88 supra was totaled too. i was stupid enought to get into a race with a drunk fella. needless to say the guy whiped into me at about 100. im so glad there were witnesses. i was sad to retire that car. i sold it to a salvage shop who fixed it up and sold it to acura's used car department in hawaii. i havent seen it since.

yes it has the turbo, but he said it needs to be rebuilt. how much do you tink that runs?

this is what i do. i just toss in used turbos. as long as they run decient. they are cheap. i crank up the boost to the limit. when the turbo brakes, i just toss in another used one. the last turbo i broke, the turbine axel broke. thats when i upgraded to a new greddy td06. it was too big. i ended up building my car up around the turbo. i make the same boost, and im $2,500 poorer for doing so. that why i pulled the td06 and went back to stock. i still make 14 psi.

it cost to much to convert a NA to a turbo. even if you got the moter, trans, ecu, wireharness. you still need the IC, the pipes,... i know all that stuff is listed in the add, but its alot of labor. a mk3 moter/trans remove& replace is much easier than you think.

They'd better make something soon... I'm itchin' to get a new sidekick for the Tundra (stupid m3)... something fast.

There have been rumors of a new supra for 2006, but nothing substantial. And I sure as heck can't afford that new TXS thing they're making. I'm secretly hoping that this is actually the new Supra, and they'll make it around the corvette level in cost and performance... But I doubt it.

Which means I'm going to have to go and buy a non-toyota sports car again (stupid m3)... which will make neither toyota or I happy. When I finally had the means to buy a Supra back in '99 (stupid m3) but they had stopped making it by then...

Well I talked to the guy and he is anxious to get rid of a complete, running '87 turbo (automatic) in good mechanical shape. And you were right about the turbo, it needs a $400 rebuild. No thanks.

I might be able to take that cherry '87 off his hands and save the wrenching for my Tundra! I like yours a lot, if you were anywhere on the west coast, I'd be ready make you an offer. Me thinks shipping to the mainland might be cost prohibitive... Out of curiosity what are you looking to get for your ride when you do sell? *** Edit *** whoops just re-read your earlier post. $2k sounds reasonable.

Thanks,

Default supra

speaking of the supra Toyota really need's to bring back there flagship car currently the Mr2 and Celica are it and they just dont jusify very much..The last Supra was made in 1998 and Toyota really seemed to get out the sport's car market then. The nissan 350z just recently sparked some attention hopefully Toyota follows suit and comes out with there own..I guess car companies see the sport car market as dead and building high profile suv and trucks which are making more of a net profile for them. Time will tell if Toyota does produce a next gen supra and hopefully it has v8 power and rear wheel drive (wishing).Nissan has done a great job on the 350z and infiniti g35 2 door which it's based on hopefully toyota comes out with some serious new blood on the sport car market...
