Toyota Cavalier
The model was briefly sold in Japan by Toyota, under a company agreement with GM, badged as the Toyota Cavalier, with some notable differences. Besides the fact that it was right hand drive, the Toyota Cavalier also featured a leather shift knob and steering wheel, different taillights, power folding rear mirrors, side marker lights on the front fenders, and carpeting on the inside of the trunk lid. These parts are hard to obtain in America but remain highly desirable among hardcore Cavalier fans. Toyota Cavaliers were first sold in 1995 and were sold up until 2000.

From day one I could never understand why Toyota would want to climb in bed with GM. The deal GM made to climb in bed with Fiat seemed like a deserving pair of companies. Not sure why GM paid Fiat 2 billion dollars to bail out of their agreement. To me it was a marriage of deserving equals.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to siphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
If your engine doesn't consume ANY oil it will seize???
Some people should not be allowed access to tools without books!!!
I never understood why Toyota would risk their reputation and go to bed with GM either! The interior of the Matrix screams GM, and is not up to par with Toyota quality. Plus, the Cavalier is one of the worst GM cars made in my opinion. I had the "luxury" of getting one as a rental car once on a trip. A cell phone charger blew a fuse, and when you closed the door it sounded like you were slamming a tin can into the ground.
Toyota and Gm have been partnered a wile. The plant in California have been building gm and toyotas side by side in varies model's so that is nothing new. It's funny toyota would have a rebaged Cavalier .. Intresting The other day I saw a 2000 ram charger suv based on the 2000 ram I never knew dodge made such a thing but I looked closly at this ram and found a Mexico plate so I guess dodge does make a full sized ram based Suv weird

They've been making it for a many years in Mexico.
It seems to me GM has squeezed the heck outta it's deal with Toyota, while Toyota has gotten the shortend of the stick.
It's like GMC & Chevy trucks, they are the same thing except GMC is supposed to have better quality.
So GM has for years had a better quality division in Toyota. All they do is use Toyota bodies change the front end a little throw in a GM engine and that baby is cooked. Ofcourse GM's CEO's seem to have some master plan in bettering GM's position in the autoworld by buying Daewoo & FIAT and killing it's Mustang competitive models. I guess the new Cobalt will take some of that market from Ford. God knows the Vette and Viper are blowing chunks at the site of the new GT even with it's bloated price. As soon as the Mustang Cobra comes out rumored at around 500hp you'd think the GT bumps up in HP and the new F150 will strap in a Cobra engine in to bring back the Lightning.
I hope Toyota get's a better deal outta it's partnering with Ford. Maybe they'll pick up some pointers in the larger engine high performance side of things. Maybe they'll talk Ford into allowing them to slap a couple of 5.0 cammer engines into the new Tundras. Seeing as how Ford just got all this hybrid technology.

I had a '93 Corolla that was rock solid reliable except when it came to the alternator. My car came with a GM Delco alternator in it that would need replacing every 60K miles. All of my other Toyotas alternators lasted at least past 130K miles.
Reminds me of the partnership (NUMMI) that created the fabled Toyolet....
It was in the late '80's....Toyota Corolla with Chevrolet badging as a Nova. This was pre-Prism days. But, the nickname "Toyolet" is what I remember as the catchphrase for the venture.

dont forget though that 1986 nummi operation is what got toyota a firm grip in america. in the big picture it was a really good decision, and toyota still brags about it. split the costs of reopening a gm plant, and voila youre building cars in america with american workers, 20 years later youre primed to become the largest car manufacturer in america!
I'm glad to hear you have had a good run out of the Cavalier and no doubt there will be others who have enjoyed a similar experience.
One of the biggest issues with the model however is the lack of product knowledge within the trade and the price of some parts. I have heard for example a front windscreen is horrendously priced if you have to purchase a genuine replacement. More than the cars value in many cases.
