Are you referring to the owner’s manual? If so, I’ll bet, for a price, your local Toyota dealer would be able to get you one.

Anyone else dealt with this? I have found one note about installing the belt properly but my dealer said they called Toyota and it is just a noise they have. You can only hear it when the car is at a stop and idling. It sounds like a pipe rattling against something. They tried to tell me it is the air inside the pipe making the noise.

Any help would be appreciated. It is driving me crazy!

I seriously doubt that it’s valid to say that all MR2s do that because mine doesn’t. I have a 2005 and there’s no strange “air in the pipe” sounds with my AC. The only strange sounds I get are from the windows. When raised from their lowest point (fully retracted) to fully closed they click when they reach the end of travel. Sometimes it almost sounds like the window glass is going to fall out but it’s not loose.

I took it in to have it fixed and the dealer replaced the window crank motor. That worked for about a week and then the same thing started again. I figured the heck with it. If they fall out then I’ll worry about it.

Rande, good to see you are still into racing MR2's.

If this rain will ever quit and the sun starts shining I know I'll start missing my 89 SC even more than I already do. Especially with these twisty Vermont roads.

I'm kinda looking at picking up a car, to save gas as a primary driver and also to have fun again in the corners. For those that have driven the Mark 1, how do they compare to the Spyders? What is available for the Spyders? Superchargers, turbos, etc. I like some of the body kits, and Im sure theres plenty of suspension upgrades out there.

Im debating on either sticking with Toyota and picking up another MR2 (not sure if it'll be a mk1, mk2 or Spyder) or go with a early 90's M3 or similar. Or get a older pickup truck that I can go out and beat on...

cheryl

have a 2004 Spyder and a 1991 Turbo. the Spyder has never had a noise like the one you describe, so it's not correct that "all" Spyders have the noise.

I've been reading several posts on spyderchat.com about noises coming from the engine. My first thought would be the pre-cats failing and causing engine death. I believe any spyder pre-2003 has pre-cat syndrome. I'm not a mechanic but I would take the car to the nearest service center to get it checked out.

You should gut your precats regardless or get a replacement header. Che's header is nice and it bolts right up to the stock downpipe and head with no problems.

Depending on the noise, it could be a loose heat shield or possibly the belt tensioner.

If you've been reading a lot of spyderchat, then you've most likely came across some of my posts. I'm going to be checking on some stuff here for a while since I'm shopping for a Highlander and this is the only forum I can find that seems to have any substantial information on it.
