Unhappy 1992 Previa diagnostics check

Is there a way to check diagnostics codes without a code reader? I just bought a 1992 Previa and have never worked on a Toyota(This is my first). I wasn't happy to find out that the wiper blades are a dealer only item that runs approx $39.00. What other problems should I expect?

Default Re: 1992 Previa diagnostics check

Flip up the drivers seat.
The diagnostic check connector is under it.
Jump across pins E1 & TE
Turn ignition ON ( do not start)
The engine light will flash and you have to count the number of flashes.
This number of flashes is the "CODE"
Typical codes are for EGR, TPS, THW and THA
Run the codes and post, we can then assist you further.

The SADD shaft (equipment driveshaft) Is known for failing ($900)approx.
The mufflers develop a whistle sometimes. The header pipes rattle sometimes.
Oil pan level sensor fails.
They go thru front brakes if the rear brakes are not properly adjusted.
Dont let this scare you.
Overall, they seem to be a good vehicle, and last for hundreds of thousands of miles if properly cared for.
