Default 87 mr2 reverse problem?

my mr2 has had problems heating (needle hovers above the first gauge line) during the cold in the past 2 years. i have thought that the problem may be in the thermostat but i could never find any solid info on lack of engine heat in cold conditions.
also, my speedo has been going crazy in the colder temps. i had this same problem in my first car (and first toyota), a 88 tercel, about 8 or 9 years ago. firgid (40-0 C) outdoor temp and noisy, bouncing speedo gauge. im thinking the cable. if its that, is anywhere to find a replacement?

replace the thermostat and bleed the air out of the system. the needle should run very close to the middle year round. yspert

with the warm last winter i got a new thermostat in/system bleed and normal driving conditions are much better but...when the car revs to around 4k, regardless of speed, the water temp goes to about half of what it was. cold nights on the highway the gauge stays very close to the left until the exit where it warms right away.
any thoughts?

Since you own an MR2 you should try and check out Toyota MR2 Owners Club Message Board&#8482, I'm registered there as well and there is a wealth of information on there.
Good luck.

Peace-
