Default 2000 Toyota Celica GT also an Engine Light question

Hey all,

I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT. It seems to be running perfectly, but the check engine light is on. How do I find out what the problem is??? I am a student and do not have much money to expend on the problem. I am not technically proficient, so I would appreiciate any help you can give.

Thanks!

do you know anyone with a OBD code reader? thats about the only way you can see why the egine light is on. when was the last time you changed your spark plugs? how many miles are on your car?

I only have 52000 miles on my car. I get my oil changed every 3000-5000 miles. My last major check-up was at 30000 miles. Is that enough info?? So you think I should suck it up and see if any of the local dealerships will cut me a deal?

It's hard to just tell you why the engine lights on when the car isnt doing anything abnormal. disconnect the battery then hook it back up again and see if the engine light is still on. My wife's car the engine light comes on whenever you drive through a big puddle, No idea why, but maybe the similar thing happenes to you.
